Just for fun.Possible HC candidates...

BoR, after reading your post about the OC/letter to DRad the other day, I was hoping you'd announce as a candidate (Maybe you are and this is just part of the stealth campaign?).

I don't know if DRAD has called yet, I've been on the phone all day with the Steelers and the Falcons.

Mike Leach, Skip Holtz, Pat Nix, Chris Petersen, Norm Chow, Mike Shula, David Kelley, Mac, Jimbo, Whiz, Dennis Greene, Mike Tice, Cower (sp?), Derrick Dooley, Salazzo.

Grobe's not an option for Tech. No way he would leave Wake for another conference school, that's just not the way he works.

I'm hoping if we need a coach Fisher from LSU is on DRad's speed dial.

nc, how in the hell do you know what it will take to move Grobe? Do you know him and his family personally? Is he not interested in more money? Wake is even smaller than GT so we can buy him if that is a factor. Do you know his wife and her aspirations where to live? Is not Atlanta a better place for some than Winston-Salem? You speak thru your ass man.

Speak through my ass? If Grobe wasn't interested in Nebraska and he wasn't interested in Alabama, why would he be interested in Tech? And what makes you think we would pay him more than Wake can? I'm not sure we can buy anybody given the financial situation GTAA is supposed to be in.

Besides, my posts are based on what I've read about Grobe over the years he's been at Wake and what I've been told by people who do know him, his involvement in the community and my read on the kind of man he is. Could I be wrong? Sure. But I doubt it. So how about you telling me why a coach would leave the ACC Champions, at a school that worships him because he's now the best coach they have ever had in their history. It's also a school that is in the midst of a major overhaul to their stadium and facilities and is more excited about football than they have ever been.

So let's hear what you've got.

I want to be the first fire Paul Johnson GT fan. I will change my handle to "MaulPaul" and start a new board for my legionaires. His offense is boring and he can do nothing right in my eyes. He hasn't "coached up" a qb while at Navy and is far too conservative on offense.

Every story written about him in the AJC, I will be on Stingtalk and the hive explaining how it was all Paul's fault and that we are settling for mediocrity. On BuzzOff, I will use a name like "white prix" and tell everyone how I am hoping Notre Dame beats us because Paul spurned my amorous advances. The old man just isn't getting it done anymore.

By the way, it would be highly unlikely that Grobe would come to Georgia Tech. Whoever suggested Skip Holtz needs their head examined. We don't want Lou's little boy anywhere near our program.

omg.....that list has some HILARIOUS names on it.

Firstly...David Kelly. :laugher: Now that I have taken 5 minutes to compose myself to continue typing.

Pat Nix, Derrick Dooley, Dave Solazzo....not even close to ready and Solazzo will never be a HC unless something really lucky happens to him in his career.

Mac MacWhorter is a great guy...super coach and super person that I have loved talking to over the years. However, he never even is considered as a coordinator much less a HC.

Skip Holtz and Mike Shula can't get it done. May as well give Mike O'Cain another whirl.

Dennis Green is perhaps the worst head coach and worst coach in all of football at offensive preparation. He is a re-tread coach.

Mike Tice....Vikings scandals...Vikings never accomplishing anything. Unless you consider organizing and profiting from a Super Bowl ticket scalping scheme that resulted in a $100k fine from the NFL...that was probably his most successful move.

Jimbo Fisher will take a job as OC at Alabama for more money than we pay CG now.

Ken Whisenhunt, Mike Leach, Chris Peterson, Bill Cowher, and Norm Chow (huge recruiting and personality question marks that would allow him to find other coaches...there is a reason he has not been offered HC jobs with his OC genius.) are all legitimate candidates for any HC opportunity.

...but CG is not going anywhere...this is great publicity for recruiting though...seriously.

"just for fun"

It worked, but to many some of those names are qualified just because they know where GT is.

If the almighty CCG does leave, at least he will be able to say he made it to the stadium where the OB is played.

And I thought bama just hired a new HC.

I assume that your are critical of some of ...

choices that others have posted. Now that you have made that point, your choices would be...??? Or did I overlook them? If so, I apologize.

BoR, I would be more than happy, nay, I would be honored, to use my substantial lack of influence to support your candidacy.

Wow... I'm glad you're not in charge.

Do you mean OC?

From what I've heard, Jimbo's will probably go to Tallahassee to be FSU's OC. Not even a lateral move from LSU, so I'm guessing their's some implicit promise there that he'll take over for Dadgummit when he retires.

Still, he's worked with DRad longer than he worked with Saban or Miles. I'm guessing that Fisher would be DRad's first choice in the event of Chan leaving.

There is no way Jimbo Fisher as an OC for Bama can make as much money as the Head Coach for GT. That is completely assinine and incorrect.

No coordinator in the NCAA makes as much as Chan does.

I believe the highest paid coordinator in the country only makes $500-600K. A new HC at GT would likely make double that amount.

That is correct...but there are rumblings here in the deep south coaching community that Saban has a $2 million budget for coordinators if he can find the right guy. Supposedly sights are set on Jimbo....FSU will not match whatever Alabama will offer.

How can Alabama make sense out of these numbers?

I know that they have deep pockets and a big fan base, but there are plenty of programs that are right there with them.

Have they lost their minds? Or are they printing funny money?

I think the combination of Auburn beating the snot out of them, the fact that moonshine continues to be illegal, their lack of understanding the importance of education...and just overall state of Alabama ignorance...drives them to a "figure it all out later" mentality.

This kind of money has to come from somewhere. Either the Alabama AA has the cash or a bank would have to approve loans to them.

Huge AAs such as tOSU's, UF's and UT's (Texas) don't pay this kind of money to their coaches. How the hell is Bama doing it?

Based on a newspaper link on the Hive, this could have some legs under it.

Kind of odd that fsu has taken back their offer to Jimbo. I really don't think Fisher would blow off the seminole offer of today and (most likely) tomorrow to jump on the nick wagon.

This may get interesting.
