I walked away thinking that if Tech had just gotten one of any number of break opportunities late in the game, the game was won. Some have been recounted elsewhere but I'm trying to put together a consolidated list. What others have I missed?

Failed 2pt conversion (obv)
Missed FG end of regulation (obv)
Green fumble (could have salted it away)
Missed throw to Qua (easy TD)
Illegal block penalty (momentum swing)
Missed tackle on 50 yd TD for 28-21 (too quick a score allowed)

The "What If" index on this loss is off the chart.

I thought that fade the dread-locked TN receiver caught for a TD was well covered, he just went up and took it. That dude ate our lunch.

I think that was also the drive that TN used an illegal pick on a 3rd down pass to extend the drive.

Good summary, I was thinking of starting the same sort of thread to counter those who want to blame the loss on the fumbles, on the defense, on the kicker, or possibly on CPJ for going for 2.

If any of the things you list don't happen, we win the game.

There were 2 missed FGs by the way..

We also had a missed block-in-the back call that set us up for a score, so we can't say shit

I think we were within an eyelash of 3 INTs, as well.

Bullshit. It was borderline anyway and even the TV announcers said it looked to be sort of to the side. If that call gets made we score anyway. Wasn't it on like 1st down?

Clear proof of a malevolent Tech-hating god.

If anyone ever put together a heartbreaking loss stat, I'm sure we would blow everyone else away, except maybe UGA.

The first missed field goal was the point where I thought "yep, I can feel this one slipping away."

I thought Weimerskirtch played OK, but not as well as Benson - it hurt having him miss a couple of series (although it would have been nice to be rotating B-backs a little all along).

Marshall got dinged and went out and Jordan had to come in cold - that basically ended a drive.

We are up 21-7 with the ball @7:20 remaining in the 3rd Qtr in Tennessee territory...no way regulation should have ended 28-28.

Missed opportunities:
1. Block below the waist 15yd penalty on 1st down gaining run
2. Marshall on money w/ 3rd & 7 pass, Jeune drops
3. Brutally bad 47yd FG try
4. Tennessee 3rd & 3 runs ridiculous pick play for 1st down.
5. 5yd curl turns into 50yd TD for TENN
6. Marshall goes out w/apparent stinger 10:30 left in game. Offense stalls under MJ.
7. MJ throws deep pass to Searcy over middle. Clear contact ignored by refs. Pass too far to middle of the field.
8. Green fumbles ball on 25 yd line on what would have been the game winning drive.
9. Searcy wide open in corner of end zone overthrown by Marshall. Hit while throwing.
10. 36yd FG to win game...terrible kick, blocked.
11. 2pt conversion attempt fail.

.....so at a minimum I think there were 11 opportunies that would have won us the game had they ended differently. They did not. Can do nothing but move forward.

Go Jackets!

None of these are missed "breaks". These are all failures to execute, aka öööö ups.

A break is if the other team's running back trips on his shoelaces in the open field. Missing a tackle is not a missed break. Every item on your list was completely within our control to make happen...we just failed to do so.

I didn't include the first FG because it seemed like an ill-advised, unlikely to convert opportunity. I expected CPJ to run the false start play (unsuccessfully), taken 5 yard penalty and punted.

Any game that goes into double OT has probably a dozen plays that could have changed the outcome.

From the 30/35?

I don't consider us not making mistakes "breaks". If JJ doesn't fumble like his job description dictates then we win. If a kicker makes a bread and butter FG we win without time remaining. If we don't chop block we likely win. These were things in our control. I consider "breaks" when things are handed to us-- ie we have UT several breaks.

I don't thibj anyone is blaming CPJ for anything other than putting that kicker in charge. I guess I read some tweets where people are mad about the 2pt conversion. But general consensus here it was the right decision.

Maybe I don't know. Haven't read stingtalk all day. Butthurt is still too high.

That play was really weird, it looked like half the lines on both teams were just standing there not playing. I wonder if a lack of focus by our linemen killed us there

Listened to Press Row on Chattanooga today and they were very laudatory of Tech. Said PJ "coached his headset off" and just "stuck it up Bob Shoop's butt." Agreed with PJ that if the 2 point play gets blocked even close to right it's an easy score.
