Dinich says the ACC is holding its own. I am not sure if she means holding at fourth place among the major conferences. In fact the statistics are overwhelming and somewhat sad. Of the ESPN 300, the SEC has projected 3 times as many players as the ACC. And of the ESPN 150, the SEC has projected 3 times as many players as the ACC. Sadly TECH does not have one at this moment. To win against the SEC all our players will have to be coached "up". That puts a lot of pressure on a coaching staff. If this trend can not be changed then the ACC will struggle to be competitive outside the ACC.

recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300 because SEC teams have the best recruits because recruits with SEC offers make the ESPN 300

The question is how many of those were top 300 or 150 BEFORE they committed to SEC schools.

All work and no play makes Johnny an ESPN top 300 recruit.

not buying Mtown. So are you saying that you get rated higher just because a SEC school seeks your services? The ESPN rating may have some flaws but for the most part it is accurate.

er just because a SEC school seeks your services? The ESPN rating may have some flaws but for the most part it is accurate.

I'm not saying the rankings are totally wrong, but if Alabama offers a 2 star recruit early in the process because they had a good junior camp then they get automatically bumped to a 3 star. It happens. If GT offers the same recruit they stay at 2 until other schools come along and offer as well.

Its a combination of circular logic and a self-fulfilling prophesy. The SEC becomes good because ESPN says they are good and better recruits go to the SEC because of what ESPN says. Perception becomes reality. The rich get richer. There is also a phenomenon of recruits being highly rated because of who has offered them. Alabama will never ever EVER have a 2 star recruit with Saban there because the fact that Saban offered them makes them better than 2 stars. They get an automatic bump in star rating.

If I'm not mistaken Brendan Douglass was a 2 star until UGA offered. Now he is a 3 star. High school football was over. He did not show any improvement in his football abilities. The thing that changed was a big bad SEC school gave him an offer. It is circular logic.

I noticed the 3 star bump as well.. when did this happen???

Most definitely. If you don't believe me, look at the guys who fly under the radar throughout the recruiting process, like George Adeosun. Dude was a 1*, committed to Willam & Mary until like 2 weeks ago, and then Oklahoma, UGA, Kentucky, etc. offered him. He's the same player he was prior to the offers, but now he's a friggin 4* somehow. The same thing happens with guys all over the country when they suddenly pick up big name offers (read:SEC).

Look at Brendan Douglas for another example. He was a 2* for forever, and stayed at 2* when he committed to us. Now he flips to UGA right before signing day and magically switches to a 3*. How does that even make sense?

The Douglas example is hard to repudiate; however, some of these kids start their senior year as a two star. That automatically puts the kid in an uphill battle. Same kid has a great senior year and does not get bumped until he has been fully vetted by the D1 schools. If TECH thinks they have found a diamond in the rough they may put a spotlight on the kid hence the star bump. I think that is waht happened to the Douglas kid. Could happen to the Griffen kid except for the fact that we will let him play QB and it was late late in the game.

I'm not going to get into the whole stars thing, but looking at top to bottom who has the best recruits is a little misleading.

There are a lot more schools in the ACC that are not your typical marquee schools. Wake, BC, and Duke have no business landing anyone in the ESPN150.

I mean, you are comparing Bama, Tennessee, Auburn, uga, LSU, A&M, USCe with basically Clemson, FSU, and VT. We probably should be doing better, but the ACC holding its own doesn't necessarily mean having more top recruits.
