Kennesaw State getting a football team? Thanks Bin Laden.

KSU is late to the party. The school has one of their best years in basketball and now they decide to have a football team, well maybe the sole purpose but still.

KSU literally has nothing to offer to recruits. Especially if they become a part of UGAy.

They are not coming off their best basketball season. They went 13-20 and 7-13 in conference

I thought they were doing well? I remember some press about them, or was that in 2008? I definitely remember reading the AJC and them mentioning an outside chance for KSU to even make the tourney. Maybe it was 2008?

They snuck into their conf tourney as the 8 seed and upset the 1 seed before losing in the next round. This was the first year they were eligible for postseason play in division 1. They had good years a few years ago, division 2 national championship (04) and almost won their regular season conference title in their first 2 years of divison 1.

They have some good young talent right now, and if they can get a decent big man or transfer it wouldn't suprise me if they made the tourney in the next 3 years out of a very weak Atlantic Sun.

GT also plays at Kennesaw State this year.

Let Gilmer Street High School and Kennesaw High play each other and the AJC Nadlickers will publish a special edition.

Except a 4 year long buffet of smokin' hot white women going through the experimental stage of their lives...but I digress.

Well, yes, but any football player that is actually any good and has any aspirations of playing football past college will not go there for that.

Well, ya...but now you've requalified the statement. KSU has white women to offer recruits. That doesn't mean it's gonna pull in the Calvins, but still.

Football players will go to KSU because it's a place to play football, which is enough for players at that level.

You guys are giving KSU way too high of expectations. They're not looking to be a BCS team any time soon, they're just going for a decent FCS (or lower) team to increase brand recognition and help alumni donations.

2013 seems very optimistic. No decision has even been made yet, they are only "exploring" the options. Alot of money would still have to be raised to double the size of the newly built soccer stadium, fund a football program in general, and add 3 or 4 women's sports teams to meet Title IX regulations.

If they decide to use the soccer staduim as the football field then they would never fill it up with their own fans. It holds like 10k and they would only ever sell it out if they played GT or UGA.

However, I have heard that the plan is to build a seperate stadium on campus for football.

They are going to use that stadium for football. It holds 8.3k

Either way, I believe the NCAA regulations require a football stadium to seat at least 16k. I am not sure where they would build something that large in Kennesaw.

That's probably a BCS qualification, not NCAA. I can give you a handful of schools off the top of my head that don't sit 16k.

Quote from the KSU magazine article...

Interviewer: What do you think of the new soccer stadium KSU is building?

Dooley: It’s very, very exciting; it will be a great asset and there is some discussion that the stadium has the potential to be enlarged as a possibility for a football stadium. The field would have to be adjusted somewhat but that’s a minor issue considering the issue of more than doubling the stadium in terms of seating. In order to have football there are certain requirements the NCAA has and part of it is to show an interest and show that there’s enough support for football, and that is reflected in the attendance.

Jacksonville St sits 15k
North Alabama sits 14,215
Valdosta St sit ~11k
Morehouse and West Georgia both sit under 10k
Wofford sits 13k
etc

They'd just expand the soccer stadium they are building now. Looks like it could easily expand to 16k - that isn't all that much. Saturday football will make Town Center traffic even more of a nightmare than it is now.

I doubt KSU or Georgia State will ever hurt Tech.

To put it bluntly, Georgia Tech has trouble selling out a stadium against BCS competition.

What makes anyone think State or Kennesaw is going to be overly successful at it?

Um, attitudes like this?

I dunno.

But we best worry bout our stuff, and start making things happen vs ugag.

It would be a bad time for KSU to start, they also have run out of room on their campus for anything. GSU is building a ton of momentum downtown with their new program. They are getting some really good players for a start up program and are an attractive place for recruits in GA that won't get a UGA or GT offer. The transfers they are bringing in will help the program build quickly. They have a huge alumnni base and are bringing in the money, the new facilities they built are top notch. GSU won't effect GT much anytime soon but it will hurt Ga Southern.

Southern screwed up taking too long to move up to FBS. GSU will be there before Southern ever will.

Clyde Yandell and Joe Gilbert on the OL, Star Jackson at QB, and Sidney Haynes at WR is impressive for an FCS start up program.
