Listen, we were in a dumpster fire. Shanahan came across an ocean and was simply overwhelmed and got zero coaching. Maybe I’m in the minority but I think the kid has potential. He just needs coaching and some confidence. The kid just was thrown to the wolves and gained a lot of experience. I’m a firm believer in that you learn more from early failure than early success. I have no problem with bringing in another punter, but I also see the potential that Shanahan has as he goes from a true freshmen to a senior with years of experience.
Just reading that sentence makes me want to throw up.Collins was personally coaching special teams...
*sigh* I miss those days.We won't need a punter...
Kid comes all the way over here from Ireland, is coached by a complete idiot and some of our dumb fans want to kick him to the curb (no pun intended).Got so frustrated watching GT’s punting team last season - nice to know CBK noticed as well and is bringing in competition for Shanahan.
I am just glad we now have 2 punters. Every position should have depth. The best punter will start this season.Kid comes all the way over here from Ireland, is coached by a complete idiot and some of our dumb fans want to kick him to the curb (no pun intended).
So, is Pyron also “toast” because we took a qb from the portal?
be
Shanahan was personally coached by Collins yet you still want to see Shanahan burn?
That pretty much means you think Collins is a good coach. Glad we got that cleared up.
Obviously.. We'll need twoWe won't need a punter this year.
FWIW, my take is the cut-blocking rule change in 2016 limited our ability to seal the edge with the smaller A-backs we recruited, and it made us less efficient there as a whole, and far more dependent on the inside veer on 4th and short. The result is we were more predictable.Every time I watch one of these videos about "never punting" they always over simplify one game situation that never seems to get addressed and that is how well your offense is performing against their defense that day. If you can't ever pick up a 2nd or 3rd and short, for example, why would you even try a 4th and short? Maybe it's actually a positive EV play to kick a FG or punt in that situation? I know our offense was so bad the past three years that going for it on 4th and 1 from our side of the playing field was 90% of the time just giving them a short field. Now if you have an efficient, balanced offense where you are a threat to run any play from any down and distance (keeping the the defense from loading up to stop one play), then I would scream at the TV screen "GO FOR IT YOU MORON" nearly every 4th and short outside of our 20 yard line.
GT under peak CPJ was certainly in this category and it made opponents fans depressed to know a 3rd down stop wasn't the end of the drive. Near the end of CPJ's tenure here we were much less efficient on offense for some reason though and short yardage became a risky play. Not sure what happened but it was no longer a high percentage play.
I agree with your overall point, I think I just long for the above bolded action again. Nothing better than that. The fear, the resignation, the defeat in their eyes.....

Most punters have their own kicking coach......
Appears he is a two step punter ,that is good.
I thought there were always just two steps?
Step 1: Catch the ball
Step 2: Kick the ball
