Kicker and Punter

Open competition for both spots. Completely unacceptable contributions from specialists today and really all season.
I’m not sure if 1800s law still apply but I’m pretty sure their performance is a hangin offense. Rules of football may have changed since then though.

Correct. He sucks.
It would be great if we occupied some fantasy world where the team never ended up with 4th and long further back than the opponent's 15 yard line, but in reality, you're sometimes going to be in situations where you have to kick longer FGs that a college kicker is expected to make at a decent clip.

He makes his XPs and chip shots, which is great, but he's a complete liability on anything beyond that.

We ran off the wrong kicker. Gavin is hitting 87.5% of his FG attempts this year with a long of 53.
Unsurprising that Gavin is a good kicker given how clutch of a player his brother was. Makes me think our evaluation of kickers was not good. The first warning sign should've been that Stewart had the better leg for kickoffs and long FGs

Our kicker has not sucked. He is bad from very long range and Key kept trotting him out there or playing for long FG. Both of todays miscues were on the snap.

Yep. Beyond 47, he is pretty much a guaranteed miss. Having him kick at that range is a coach’s decision. He’s solid below 40. That makes him lower P4 and about average for FBS.

Shanahan has zero hang time and Birr can't hit > 40 or if the ball is on the right side of the field. This is not even getting into not being able to handle a snap and place the ball.

What did the kicker do? Snapper couldn’t get the ball to the holder.
Both the resident expert on the other site and me, the resident semi expert on this site say that the snaps were not the problem. They should have been handled better but he’s relatively new at handling higher than normal snaps.

The first snap was awful. 50/50 at best on whether anyone else would have gotten it down for a clean kick.

Second snap was better and Shanahan handled it slow which led to a late kick that Birr did no favors for by kicking a line drive.
