Kickoff Coverage History

Georgia is in 67th with a 20.54 average.

Turn that 100 yard return into a 20 yard return and we've given up 526 yards on 20 returns. That's a 26.3 average and good enough 112th place!

Ah well, there goes that theory. *grin*

We couldn't cover kicks in '90 either, apparantly.
Ross chose the short pop-ups many, many times.

Against the wind or not, we have security in the sideline. We have turned KO coverage into the most exciting play in college football: kick it OB.

We have to get better obviously, but we don't need to let things get away by kicking to a sprinter this year.

Kickoffs out of bounds give receiving teams two options: take it on the 35 or do the kickoff again five yards up the field. No doubt Clemson knows about the bad matchup and will want to make us kick it again.

At this point, I would rather just spot the other team 5-10 yards past the 20 than have anything big happen. When Yahioui(sp?) has tried to go for the touchback, sometimes he does but many times he kicks it too low. I'm hoping we can master a high pop-up kick before the game, because Ford and Spiller do scare me.

Let's just make sure our kicker doesn't practice a new kick and pull a hammie (referring to UGA of course).

Clemson and UGA both scare me.

UGA took a punt and KO to the house against UT, and gashed us pretty badly last year on returns.

On the positive side, if there is any team worse than us at covering kickoffs, it may be Clemson. Clemson's opening kickoff to Wake was runback 93 yards. Boston College broke one 105 yards for a TD and had around 200 yds total kickoff retun yardage.

Here's hoping Grant gets a seam because I think he is more aggressive than Dunlap and could do some damage in this game.

The problem with that is that we're pretty awful at returns as well.
