Demetrius Knight has entered the transfer portal. He'll have two years of eligibility left.
He's played in four games, with 9 tackles this year. Played in all 12 in 2019 and 2021 (between defense and special teams).
Also entering as a grad transfer, too, I think.

That would put us down to just Tatum as the only backup with real reps to my knowledge behind Thomas and Eley. Someone else will need to step up. Not sure if Minguez is healthy, feel like we were hearing his name for a while before injury last year...

I'm not going to read anything into this. There is so much going on right now that maybe DK just needs a change of scenery. We are grateful for your service and wish you nothing but the best going forward.

Gonna need Meiguez to get ready in a hurry. He's healthy now but just behind because he missed so much time to injury. Hopefully we can find some situations to get him reps in that aren't high pressure situations over the next few games.

I assume he wants a free ride through grad school and he is not interested in grad school at Tech. Does he have a significant injury or has he dropped on the depth chart now that the criteria has changed? On the plus side, this provides more room for the roster realignment.

Looking at the roster Knight is a big dude, 6'2" 247lbs. Seems heavy for a LB. Not sure who started the 1st half against Pitt but based on stats look like it could have been Trenilyas Tatum who comes in 30lbs lighter (same height).

Solid all round player, we just never stuck him at a spot. Collins tried to move him to QB in 2020 I believe, and he still got reps there. Really weird situation tbh. Hope he does well.

On the 2 deep from Tuesday he was the backup to Charlie, I believe.

Moving him to QB was so stupid; really wasted a year of development so we could have a QB4.

congrats to DK on his impending graduation. Sounds like he can still use this as a RS year so he’ll have 3 years left to play. Given his size/athletic ability, I am sure he’ll have plenty of options.

He was recruited by CPJ as a QB. He was a QB when Collins got here and IIRC, he stayed at QB the first year, or either split time there and DB/LB trying to find a spot, then moved permanently to defense, then back to QB when we were extremely thin there, and back to defense this year. I don't know how his option QB play was, but he is an extremely physical dude and would've been the most physical option QB we've had since Nesbitt no doubt.

His tFR year was under Collins and he only played LB. He was in the 2-deep and his sack/fumble/Td was a big reason we beat Miami. Jerking a 2 deep LB back to QB for 2020 so he could be QB4 was ööööing stupid. He was never going to play QB in a passing offense and we stunted his development.

he’s a good kid and really talented. I hope he does well elsewhere.

Id assume that he planned to leave after 4 games so he could play some this season while maintaining 2yrs of eligibility. Seems like a well thought out approach. If he has his degree, then whatever… good for him. He was physically gifted, but basically learning LB on the fly at the collegiate level.

Why didn’t he take the snap at 3rd&goal from the 1ft line?

I know his first year was under Collins but he was recruited by CPJ to be an option QB. He started off at QB for a while when Collins took over and then moved to defense. The reason they moved him back to QB was because we needed an emergency situation QB and he already knew a lot of the plays/language of the offense. Stranger things have happened to where you need a 4th string emergency QB and in P5 football you can't just stick anybody out there and tell him "ok this play hand it off to Dontae."
