Knight in the portal

I would think if he will be a grad transfer he has to put his name in the portal to start talking to other coaches and see what grad programs are available to him. I wouldnt be surprised to see him keep playing this season.

I know his first year was under Collins but he was recruited by CPJ to be an option QB. He started off at QB for a while when Collins took over and then moved to defense. The reason they moved him back to QB was because we needed an emergency situation QB and he already knew a lot of the plays/language of the offense. Stranger things have happened to where you need a 4th string emergency QB and in P5 football you can't just stick anybody out there and tell him "ok this play hand it off to Dontae."
Nice logic Geoff. He was actually QB5 in 2020. Sims, Gleason, Graham, Yates, Knight. We were not super deprived of depth like Geoff spouted off. We also could have rolled Tobias back to QB or slotted in a walkon as QB5 or QB6 if öööö really hit the fan.

Moving a 2 deep player for a full year to be an emergency emergency emergency backup qb was a stupid move by a stupid coach.

He won't play any more this year. He's only played 4 so far and can still redshirt this year and have 2 more to play somewhere else.

Try again. Not real sure what your fascination with Knight's situation is, but here's how it went down. Knight came in as QB, moved to LB for 2019 and 2020 and played a limited role as a backup and primarily on special teams. James Graham and Tucker Gleason transferred after the 2020 season, so Spring 2021 Knight was moved back to QB because all we had was Jeff Sims, Jordan Yates, and true freshman Chayden Peery who hadn't played a game in over a year (no HSFB in California Covid year), and walk-on Brody Rhodes. Knight went into that spring as likely QB3. That same spring, we had Ace Eley, Quez Jackson, Charlie Thomas, Tyson Meiguez, and Trenilyas Tatum as likely the top 5 LBs. Knight would still have seen limited action there. Meiguez tore his ACL that spring so they moved Knight back to LB and got Trad Beatty as an emergency QB from the portal over the summer of 2021. Tobias was not going back to QB in 2021 because he was graduating in December and trying to make it into the NFL as a DB.

I assume he wants a free ride through grad school and he is not interested in grad school at Tech. Does he have a significant injury or has he dropped on the depth chart now that the criteria has changed? On the plus side, this provides more room for the roster realignment.
It’s not free asshole.

Moving him to QB was so stupid; really wasted a year of development so we could have a QB4.
Wasn't he recruited as an option qb? Didn't he play qb in AA in high school?

Sad to see him go. I hope he lands somewhere that gives him the opportunity to play his best football.

Geoff, Shut up and leave this site. It’s unhealthy.

Haha good one. :bfd: I've been here longer than you, brother. Sure, I supported Geoff while he was here and thought he may eventually right the ship. I was wrong and have admitted so. Some folks go out of their way to try and dunk on him though and think every single thing he did was stupid. There was nothing wrong with how Knight was used as I just showed, but go ahead, keep letting facts not discourage you from making dumb arguments.

You might be the only Tech fan that thinks his move to QB was a good move. Think on that for a few.

He moved to QB for ONE spring when we only had 2 capable QBs. Also, I believe you are quite wrong thinking I'm the only one who thinks that.

His tFR year was under Collins and he only played LB. He was in the 2-deep and his sack/fumble/Td was a big reason we beat Miami. Jerking a 2 deep LB back to QB for 2020 so he could be QB4 was ööööing stupid. He was never going to play QB in a passing offense and we stunted his development.

he’s a good kid and really talented. I hope he does well elsewhere.
Yep, chalk that up to all of the genius position changes Collins made. Here are a few others:

Jahaziel Lee from OL to DL
Tobias Oliver from QB to WR to DB
Charlie Thomas from LB to Safety for 2020, back to LB (he was clearly out of place as a defensive back)
Bruce Jordan-Swilling from starting/in the rotation at LB to never seeing the field at RB and being a walking penalty on special teams. At one time, he had a ton of potential at LB and was really good as a freshman

Once there was a guy stranded alone on a desert island. He was convinced he was not alone because he kept hearing another voice. But all along it was just the echo of his own lonely voice that he was hearing. ;)
