Does anyone have any info about Kyle's injury?

Sophomore linebacker Kyle Jackson, who started 10 games in 2008, will undergo a surgery procedure on his right foot Monday morning ... No time table has been set as to when he will return ... (from the practice report yesterday on ramblinwreck.com)

i saw that also and went looking for some extra info on the boards and didn't find anything.

Given the type of injury he has, I'm almost certain that we will not see him on the field in 09. I'd give him a less than 5% chance of playing.

I'm not familiar with this procedure, but it sounds like it is more of an injection than surgery. Athletes often get cortisone injections and return to play. I'm guessing he has already had that, though, and it didn't work. Either way, it sounds like there is still some mystery to what is going on and that's not good. Feet are very complicated due to all the bones, ligaments and tendons, so even general orthopedists are sometimes reluctant to work on them.

I don't think it's really a mystery anymore since all the doctors recommended the same surgical procedure.

I think I read somewhere that it's the first time (or one of the 1st) this procedure is being used on a foot. You don't like hearing that. It also sounded like they were out of options and this is all they could come up with. Maybe I'm overstating it but it didn't give me a optimistic feeling. I hate it for Kyle so early in his career. He's got a ton of potential too. Hopefully he can make it back.

I have been having PRP injections monthly for the last six months on my right ankle. And it is a series of of injections (not surgery) using your own blood, spun in a centrifuge with some special sauce that can heal tendons, ligaments and even regrow cartiledge.

In my case, thirty years after having successful ligament surgery there was still un-natural movement in the ankle joint that created bone spurs. After having them 'scoped out last November and completing the rehab the ankle still hurt like hell. I learned that I now had bone on bone arthritis. My conventional options were fusion (pretty mch done athletically) or joint replacement which still wouldn't allow me to do the things that I want and both options have a 9 month recovery.

Anyway, my orthopedist had a vague rememberance of a female patient that was flying to Miami to get as it turns out PRP treatments. The healing curve for the procedure is approximately one month, after which you assess its effectiveness and do again if you're not "cured". By the way it hurts like a MF!

After not finding any local doctors offering the procedure I discovered a former urologist turned prolotherapist (just google it) in Nashville that was performing PRP. I'm slowly healing and hope to regain full use of the ankle - it does work. I wouldn't think that the foot would be that risky as they inject wherever you feel sore or tender.

I read on the other board that he was having it done at Emory so I sure would appreciate if there is someone closer to the program / Kyle who could let me know who the doctor is. Thanks.
