Lanier to Redshirt

DT is gettin thin. I hope Jason Hill can contribute something, if not maybe we move someone else in there for depth.

We have Peters, Anderson, Barnes and Wall. That's it.

We will have depth soon with Lanier, Mccoy and Green.

That must mean good things for our current D-Line because Lanier is a player. He looked good in the couple times that I got to see him on a college field (in practice anyways). If he RS, it wasn't from a lack of effort.

Wish that was true but don't think so...
Paul Johnson said after practice today that true freshman defensive tackle J.C. Lanier will likely have surgery on his injured shoulder and will sit out the 2009 season. Lanier was expected to redshirt the 2009 season.

Doesn't the italicized part indicate he would of redshirted if healthy?

Here's to hoping that it isn't an injury that becomes a naggin injury thus preventing him from being able to live up to his potential....

Here's to wishing for a safe surgery, full/complete recovery...as though it had never happened....

Hope he is able to keep his weight down as well during this down time and not allow it to SKY ROCKET due to lack of conditioning...
Thoughts?

Obviously you missed the part about his injured shoulder which more than likely is what is going to keep him out this season.

have they changed the article?

because what i just read said none of this, but only that they hoped he would be back for spring practice.

r/s or not...he probably would have helped(from what i've heard of his reputation) at least depth-wise for stamina or potential injuries later. bummer.

No, it means he would've redshirted if healthy.

I just read the article and CPJ inferred that Lanier most likely would have readshirted this yera with or without the injury.

That is the classic CPJ downplay. He makes everything seem like its not a big deal...which is smart.

Giff was quoted after practice as saying that Lanier was expected to be in the rotation. He was running second team when he went down with the injury.
