According to the AJC, Larry Munson will be announcing his retirement tonight. Munson has been the voice of the Dawgs for over 40 years.

Despite being a Dawg, I always kinda liked him. One of my best friends, a recent UGA grad, has said for a few years that he wished his team had a play-by-play guy he could actually understand. Sadly, he's right. Larry's best years are pretty far behind him, and his health has been pretty poor recently. Hopefully this announcement isn't spurred by another downturn.

Heres wishing the drunk bastard a peaceful and healthy retirement (in which he doesn't see another W for the nut lickers). Hate the mutts as much as anyone, and his hydrant humper homerism, but like it or not he's been a big part of football in the state for a lot of years.

UGA 6 dies, Munson retires, and UGA football fails to live up to expectation. What a horrible year for the Mutts.

That said, I, too, wish Munson the best. He's one of the few people who worked until he just couldn't do it anymore - that just doesn't happen much anymore. Some of his best work was when uga was down and out for the count.

Larry certainly understood his audience and could talk to their level.

That's why he was able to stay there so long. Here's wishing him a happy retirement. Cheers.

I was really looking forward to him calling the UGAg loss at the hands of Paul Johnson this year. Oh well.

Hate him.
Hate the dog.
Hate the school.
Hate the people[sic] that go to the school[sic].
Hate the people[sic] that don't go to the school[sic] and like the dog.

love,

Larry should have quit when Bobby Bowden did. Oh whats that? You know what I mean.

AJC.com's front page has a link about Munson labeled "Friends Remember."

They do realize he's not dead, right? Just retiring.

The Hell with The Greatest Announcer [sic] of the Mutts
The Hell with Athens
The Hell with Athens Community College
The Hell With The Entire Area

Too Bad he won't have to say, "Ohh The Daaawwwgs are getting it handed to them tonight by Paul Johnson." That old croak will see the Mutts go down in flames by the Option.

Run up the score on them PJ and smile the entire time. Then they can go "sic" that and go back to their trailer parks and flipping hamburgers at the fake Varsity b/c that's all their degree is worth.

Go Jackets and The Hell With the University [sic] of Georgia!

I thought Munson keeled over in the booth at Sanford Stadium back in 2000 after Godsey lifted three fingers.

I've actually enjoyed listening to Munson several times, he's one of the last of the old-school type announcers who could really paint an oral picture of the stadium, the field, the whole panoply of a day of college football. He's always been fairly respectful of Tech and complimented us on good plays frequently.

Frankly, given the necessity of listening to him call the GT-UGA game due to the lack of any other coverage in this area, I've even looked forward to hearing his coverage. On at least one occasion he said that 'we(uga) dont deserve to win this game'!

He spoke at a Boy Scout banquet in Milledgeville several years ago and obviously most of his talk was about uga. When I asked him about GT's outlook for the next season he was very knowledgeable of our athletes and coaches, thought 'Tech should have a hell of a year'!

Heehee - you said "oral picture"

ArchiTECH is feeling transformed by his/her hatred of U[sux]GA - in fact, transcended into a universe beyond normal hatred. ArchiTECH is "becoming"...

love,
ArchiTECH

BTW, the rickets comment above was both appropriate and insightful.
