VPI tackled Josh, and he was pulled down and got hit right in the head exactly the same as Cooper's hit. The ACC is just awful with the big programs in Basketball and football.

All three games stolen because of ridiculous calls when it mattered.

agreed, you should throw in BC refs from last year, and not sure what Refs we had for ND, but they were terrible.

I remember someone posted here a few days ago saying that the refs would be the biggest thing to worry about in this game...boy was he right.

I know we overlook the bad calls that go our way, but seriously has any other team in D-I FBS lost 2 key games with the help of the bogus helmet to helmet call??

Anyone got this on DVR? Screen capture? I'd like to see it.

I'd say our awful line play and our -3 turnover differential were much more worrisome than the two calls(one of which wasn't even disputable, it was just a bad play by MJ) that got VT a total of three points, albeit at a key point in the game.

I'd like to the see the Cooper Taylor one. They only replayed it once, but I didn't see the helmet to helmet from our guy at all.

I DVRed the game. I didn't get to watch it due to the drumline report time for today being at 3:30. Let me know when it happened and I will find it for you and let you see.

I'm going to watch the game next week.

It was helmet to helmet. Not a real shot but no question about the contact. I'm not sure how they decide what to call and what not to, but there was contact.

The helmet-to-helmet call is so frustrating because it's never enforced. I watch plenty of college games where it happens and nothing is called...it's just extremely subjective. and that sucks.

but the refs absolutely did not cost us this game. We had Taylor wrapped up for a huge loss in the 4th quarter, but MJ got him by the facemask. 1st down. That hurt, a lot. We also gave them a score at the end of the half. Can't do that.

We played pretty well, just not well enough to win.

I thought we played well enough to win, Ish, except the turnovers. Physically, I feel VT knows they were in a war and were lucky to get the win, thanks to our errors. We'll get better.

I mean, yeah, but I don't think turning the ball over 3 times is playing well enough to win.

I'm more focused on the fumbles/scores we gave them, and the fact that we gave them any opportunity to call those penalties in the 4th quarter.

The refs took the game away from us in the end. NO BULL**** ABOUT IT! They did, we all saw it. What a ****ing pussy call. MJ's facemask would have never happend, without that momentum killer, helmet to helmet penalty. You can't call that when Tyrod's head is around your cock, and your going in to stop forward progress (sexy). Every damn running play up the gut is a helmet to helmet personal foul.

OK, I vented, our turnovers are a problem, too.

Sorry but the call is not ridiculous Cooper Taylor clearly led with his helmet. It is terrible tackling technique to lower your head and jam it in to the ball carrier. It is a good way to break your own neck. Players are taught from pee wee league up to tackle with your head.

The rule needs to be enforced to protect the players from head injuries.

That's not what I'm questioning. The qb went down vertically because of another tackler. How do you possibly call a helmet to helmet when Cooper is tackling midlevel and then the QB gets pulled straight down. This was exactly the same bad call against Wheeler with ND.

They should have instant replay for this call.

The reason for the call probably was that someone else had the QB wrapped up and the player who made helmet to helmet contact was the second defender. Although I don't think he was as low as you seem to be indicating.

At least in our case these helmet to helmet calls seem to be called more often right at the sidelines.

I say the call on Cooper was bogus. He punched him with his wrists. Johnson's was an unfortunate turn of events as he was obviously entwined in the man's headgear.

Why don't we just do away with face masks and instead have a full acrylic polymer face shield? I don't get it.
