...as well as the "we won't get any NFL players with PJ as a coach" tripe.

Lets start with Ashley Lelie, who's career receiving yards record (3341) and receiving TDs record (32) at Hawaii under PJ stand to this day, even with June Jones running the Run/Shoot out there right now.

Anybody else got a stat line to share about PJ at Hawaii that can debunk this "PJ only runs Wing T" BS?

Hahahahaha. Whoops.

I can't brain today, I have the dumb.

I would like to see some pass/run stats for PJ lifetime, though, especially at Hawaii.

All I've seen is the 6:1 run to pass ratio at navy.

I just hope he goes easy on the flexbone (Wing T) what is the difference anyway?

From the above linked article:

Johnson himself has fanned the flames a little bit, talking about how his offense it set up to pass with 4 wide receivers, and mentioning on occasion that he indeed threw the ball some at Hawaii. It was because he had to. When Dick Tomey left Hawaii to take over the Arizona job in 1987, he left behind a team that wasn’t really suited to running the spread option, particularly at quarterback. So Johnson tailored his offense to allow his quarterbacks to throw more. This adjustment reached its zenith in 1990, when Garrett Gabriel threw for 2,752 yards and 25 touchdowns. Gabriel threw for 359 yards against BYU that year, and Hawaii also rushed for 308 yards that day. Outside of the BYU game, Gabriel averaged about 217 passing yards per game in 1990. That isn’t the overwhelming number that some people think it is, but it’s obviously more than what Navy throws for now.

I'll take any offensive coordinator who can gain over 600 yards in a game, no matter how he's doing it. That's stuff we haven't seen at Tech in a long time.

I don't care how you slice it, anything PJ has done is better than what we've had.

did you read the whole article? Over time, as PJ got his players in and not the previous staffs...hawaii became a run dominated team (1992) only passing for 1300 yards

This is my fear.

He wasn't a passing juggernaut at hawaii that is myth.

But isn't it true that PJ made out with Bill Walsh and the result was June Jones?

Who cares? We need yards and TDs.

u are right. but over time we won't get the recruits to get those yards or TD's running the freaking triple option. Just won't man.

sorry to break it to you, but in 4 years if we are running the TO we will be a 4-5 win team. Kids want to come to show of skills for the NFL.

Damn. I'm really going to miss the vaunted "WILDCAT" formation.

Oh well.

Exactly. Plus, ancient history at a very different level of competition.

Current history is that Navy was 119th out of 119 teams in passing this year. Air Force (a military theme) was 118th, but even they had well more than 50% more passing attempts, and Florida International at 117 had about 3 times as many passing attempts.

Johnson is NOT a guy who likes to throw the football. That offense will not work at GT.

This guy was forced down Radakovich's throat by the big money guys. Radakovich will be gone before Johnson makes a fool out of his administration.

Dark day for GT athletics.

more like dark years. Is it Clough...maybe...he is the only constant.

That is what Clough would like. I remember the late 70's before Homer, when we were seriously considering going 1-AA. Susan Phinney, an Auburn grad, was essentially the recruiting coordinator. The Auburn coaches would call and tell her about guys that they weren't interested in.

This move by Clough signals a return to those days. He does not want athletics competing with academics for money, so it suits him fine. After this shenanigan with Radakovich, we will never hire another good AD.

Maybe Clough will retire, but we will be digging out of a deep hole by then.

flexbone (Wing T) what is the difference anyway?

Flexbone:

Unbalanced Flexbone:

Single Wing:

[Single wing] usually connotes formations in which the snap is tossed rather than handed. Formations with one wingback and a handed snap are commonly called "wing T" or "winged T".

All info from Wikipedia.

The key to the flexbone is the slotbacks who can go in motion. It's called triple option, but it's at least 5 guys who can get the ball from that formation.
