Lets talk about this whole "Chanesque" thing

How big a target is getting a shutout in a game?

"I don't think you ever start out the game with that in mind. If you get to the third quarter or the fourth quarter, and you've got it, then it's something guys start to talk about. But I don't think it's something you ever go into a game with. You're just trying to stop each play, stop each drive, then it builds onto stopping them for a quarter. The rest of the team has got to factor in that, too. The offense has got to not give them the ball on their end. Special teams has got to not give them the ball on their end. You've got to make them go the long way. It's a team effort anytime something great like that happens."

Why not? Every game SHOULD be played like you want to shut out the opponent. I dont understand his method of thinking. There is a Chanesque quote for you

I see what you're saying gsu, but I also think that you can nitpick any quote that you read from any coach. IMO, CCG was stating that he wants the players to focus on "one play at a time" rather than "let's get a shutout for the entire game." I think this is similar to the idea in baseball about not swinging for the fences, but just trying to put some good wood on the ball - do the right things, and the homeruns (shutouts) will follow. Just my opinion - I certainly don't know exactly what Chan was thinking when he answered that question. But I'm pretty certain that one of his goals is to minimize points given up by the defense, i.e. strive for shutouts. It's really a stretch to call him out on that one.

Chanesque - Intentionally keeping any football game close in the last seconds regardless of the relative skill levels of each team in order for both teams to have a chance to win at the end.

Chanesque- Vanilla. Everything about him is vanilla. His personality, his offense, hell even his name. Chan.

Here's mine:

Calling plays in the first quarter like a riverboat gambler who just won the lottery then calling plays in the fourth quarter like an anal retentive librarian frightened of her own shadow.
