Bare in mind, I have listed these head football coaches in no particular order.

1. Jamey Chadwell, age 44, Currently the head football coach at Coastal Carolina (They are 9-2 this year) Annual salary: $850,000. Despite his young age, he has been a head coach in college for 12 seasons (at 4 different schools). Total Head Coaching Record: 88-44.

2. Shawn Clark, age 46, Currently the head football coach at Appalachian State (They are currently 9-2 this year) Annual salary: N/A. He has only been a head coach for 2 full seasons and coached App. State in a bowl game in '19, which they won. Total Head Coaching Record:19-5

3. Chris Klieman, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Kansas State (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: $3.1 Million. He won 4 National Titles at North Dakota State. Total Head Coaching Record: 91-28.

4. Kalen DeBoer, age 47, Currently the head football coach at Fresno State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: $N/A. He coached Sioux Falls to 3 NAIA Championships. Total Head Coaching Record: 78-9

5. Billy Napier, age 42, Currently the head football coach at Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (They are currently 10-1) Annual salary: N/A. He coached at Clemson, under Dabo, for several years. He grew up in Chatsworth, GA and his father was a head football coach. Total Head Coaching Record: 38-12

6. Hugh Freeze, age 52, Currently the head football coach at Liberty (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: 3 Million. The drawback to him is he was involved in recruiting violations while at Ole Miss. Total Head Coaching Record: 67-42.

7. Dave Doeren, age 50, Currently the head football coach at NC. State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: 3.2 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 86-53

8. Jeff Traylor, age 53, Currently the head coach at UTSA (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: N/A. He only has two years of head coaching experience, however. Total Head Coaching Record: 18-5

9. Dave Clawson, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Wake Forest (They are currently 9-2) Annual salary: 2.1 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 139-126

10. Luke Fickell, age 48, Currently the head football coach at Cincinnati (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: 3.4 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 52-21. Of all of these on the list, Coach Fickell would be my top choice for Tech to hire. However, he would be the most difficult to agree to come to Tech, too. Schools like LSU would have more money and appeal to lure him. Nevertheless, it could be possible.

As some have said recently, it will cost Georgia Tech more NOT to fire Coach Collins than to keep him on for another year or two. While we still have talent, the time is now to get someone who knows what they are doing. If not, we will lose more money, lose talented players via the transfer portal, and our entire athletic program will suffer as a result. This is the worst situation I have seen Tech's football program in my lifetime. I'm too young to remember clearly the period from 1979 to 1981.

Ironically, former Tech players are a big part of this mess. Todd Stansbury, the current AD and the main culprit for this horrible situation, played for Coach Curry in the early 1980s. Brent Key, currently Offensive Line Coach and Assistant Head Coach, played for Coach O'Leary in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Marco Coleman, current Defensive Line Coach, played for Coach Ross on the 1990 National Title Team. Nate Burton, Current Co-Defensive Coordinator/Safety's Coach, played for Coach Gailey in the 2000s. Will Glover, current Quality Control Specialist/Offense, played for both Coach O'Leary and Coach Gailey. Errin Joe, current Associate Director of Player Personnel, played for Coach Johnson. And even Tashard Choice, current Running Backs Coach, who played for Coach Gailey in the 2000s, and has actually done a good job with our running backs is a apart of this unsuccessful staff.

I can't imagine how much it bothers ALL of these former Tech players to see how bad Tech's football team has become. However, that may be our saving grace. They all want Tech to succeed. Maybe, they can come together and for the good of the program each offer some of their salary to help pay for a coaching change. Or unite together and talk with wealthy Tech donors to persuade them to put up the needed money to dismiss Coach Collins of his duties and hire a good head football coach.

GO JACKETS!

Napier and Fickell are waiting for the right job to open up, and Tech isn't going to lure either of those guys out. Napier might be at LSU in a few weeks, Fickell I think will stick around until a blueblood opens up. If Ohio State ever makes a change, that's his job to lose. I think Traylor wants to stick in Texas, and he just negotiated a new contract to get UTSA paid if he does leave, but he's likely there one more year regardless before getting a P5 job in that state.

Chadwell is very interesting. Definitely should check into him when we do make a change.

We wont make a change this year. T-“no-stans” will have “serious discussions” with cgc that results in Thacker getting thrown under the bus to give “the show” another year. Once again, we have the greatest off-season recruiting class since the 1975 dallas cowboy cheerleaders.

Then the worst happens, we win five or heaven-forbid six in cgc4, go bowling in el paso, claiming victory and a fifth year as we’ve shown “the greatest turnaround since 1951 germany”.

In cgc5, we again have the greatest recruiting class since saban began coaching. We also rebrand fourth down as “crypto-down”. Oh yeh, we open 2-5 in year cgc5 and the new AD (bill lewis) fires him.

Then we lament the fact that we missed deion sanders in 2021, who has coached miami to a 9-3 record in 2023 in his second year.

This is a well put together thread, but there are a few questions I have. Would one of the ACC coaches really leave their established position? Like I think Wake is in a better place than we are.

Superjacket21, you make a good point regarding the ACC coaches on the list. However, it doesn't hurt to make them an offer. And VT could very well hire Chadwell. That's why it's imperative Tech makes a coaching change soon! Our options, to correct the current mess we are in, will continue to diminish the longer we wait.

I don't think Doeren would leave, Clawson might. Overall much harder to win there than here. And we pay more.

Thanks for the list, I like Dave Clawson and feel he may consider GT as it would be a substantial pay raise for him based on what he's making at Wake Forest.

At this stage, I'd like a coach with P5 experience with "relative" success that may have worn out their welcome at a previous stint.

- Justin Fuente
- Larry Fedora
- Gene Chizik
- Doug Marrone
- Kevin Sumlin
- Joe Moorhead

On your point of so many Tech folks- alumni and former players and such- involved in this current coaching administration, I think we overrate the legacy component of a coach. Bama got in trouble with always wanting a Bear Bryant product after him, sometimes it worked, like with Stallings, but more often it didn’t. When they let go of that and got the best coach available, Saban, it worked.
It’s a nice feel good story for a hero player or return of an assistant as a coach, we love when the coach loves the program as much as we the fans do, but what matters is performance and results.
I definitely bought into (fell for?) the Collins love for Tech and Atlanta as part of the package, and while I don’t doubt his sincerity in the matter, it doesn’t seem to help anything.

Forget the Tech man approach. That is a BS way to conduct a search. As for the list above, forget Fickell he is waiting on Ohio State or at least a top ten program, why would he come to Tech. Same with Clawson, I see no reason why he could mop the floor with us at Wake - why would he come here? Good points on App State and Hugh Freeze at Liberty. Those might possibly seen as step ups.

Id also add DeBoer and Klieman to my short list. Those guys are proven winners, so they know how to win and what it takes to win. Doesnt matter what level youre talking about.

I don't want to speak for most tech folk but I view the "tech man" approach as us being able to land someone who otherwise wouldn't take a look at us due his ties. Does that man exists currently? No.

I heard Lincoln Riley is going to LSU after the season, so that clears them out of our regional coach spots.

Including the dreaded “roster management retainment” process that would surely occur with a wholesale coaching change.

These two look interesting.
I have to look this guy up but his record jumps off the page.
Kalen DeBoer, age 47, Currently the head football coach at Fresno State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: $N/A. He coached Sioux Falls to 3 NAIA Championships. Total Head Coaching Record: 78-9

Maybe Billy could like the idea of building a big rivalry with his mentor.
IDK. My donations won't raise any ears.

Definitely open to Moorhead if he is available whenever the time comes. Hard pass on Fuente. At best I think he'd be a step above Collins here and that would put our ceiling somewhere in the vicinity of Shreveport.

Fuente relied on soft schedules and recruited poorly. Terrible fit for us.
