We wont make a change this year. T-“no-stans” will have “serious discussions” with cgc that results in Thacker getting thrown under the bus to give “the show” another year. Once again, we have the greatest off-season recruiting class since the 1975 dallas cowboy cheerleaders.

Then the worst happens, we win five or heaven-forbid six in cgc4, go bowling in el paso, claiming victory and a fifth year as we’ve shown “the greatest turnaround since 1951 germany”.

In cgc5, we again have the greatest recruiting class since saban began coaching. We also rebrand fourth down as “crypto-down”. Oh yeh, we open 2-5 in year cgc5 and the new AD (bill lewis) fires him.

Then we lament the fact that we missed deion sanders in 2021, who has coached miami to a 9-3 record in 2023 in his second year.
Then the Georgia Tech Football program may not ever come back... The only thing to keep the remianing 25K season ticket holders to re-ep for next year is a coaching change. Dark Times are coming, maybe GTAA closes the FB program after next year.....They seem not to care.

if this was CGC, it would be “I’m so proud of our guys for battling against an elite opponent. I’m excited to have the lead. I’m going to go in that locker room and hug our guys and tell them I love them for their effort and intensity.”

Well then Monken is out, as this meany football coach approach won’t go over well with Coach Kickball’s former players. The entire roster would go portal.

A really close friend just finished playing for Monken in the fall of ‘19. He is now flying Apaches and is a great young man. His family is in our church; he played for my son and had him for AP Statistics.

Their take on Monken was very mixed. He was a good coach. He and his staff were great teachers. Army won more with him than they likely would with any other coach.

On the other hand, he had a prickly personality. It was really easy to get in his doghouse, and he could be stubborn about keeping you there. He could get negative with the team, a player or an assistant easily.

All of that is to say he sounds a lot like CPJ. I think Collins gets a solid D so far as our Coach. But, he should get another year. Five wins gets him a fifth year. By year six we have to be bowl bound. And, after that any turns back to losing seasons should end his tenure. But, if he is fired, I am not thrilled about Monken. Let’s take a shot at a young, good coach who will run an exciting offense, hire a good and aggressive defensive coordinator, and do well with parents, players, alums and media. It is not time to decide we have to be tied to the triple option. It was not a roaring success at the end of CPJ’s tenure.

Question: do you honestly believe that any of those guys are better than Dan Mullen? Seriously?

My personal opinion is no way.

What you guys are missing is the game of college football has changed.

Head football coaches have never won national championships. Players win national championships.

Do you really believe that Kirby Smart is as good of a head coach is Brian Kelly? Pat Narduzzi understands more X’s and O’s Than Kirby Smart does. Do you really believe Dabo Swinney knows more football than Paul Johnson?

College football players are getting paid. There is a movie coming out about the movement. They are getting paid legally, and the “rules “that prohibit them from being paid illegally and under the table are all about to go away.

College football hasn’t been about the degree for over 15 to 20 years. And has absolutely NOTHING to do with college anymore.

Dan Mullen did not lose to Kirby smart because he got outcoached. Dan Mullen lost to Kirby smart because Georgia alumni and boosters made damn sure there was such a talent discrepancy between the two programs that Vince Lombardi and Bill Belichick could be on the lines at Florida and they would still lose. Kirby brought that over from Alabama. Do you want to play with the big boys in college football? You better have some boosters with some connections and deep pocket$$$$—-and not just for fancy facilities.

I agree any of those list of coaches may be better than Jeff Collins. But don’t be naïve enough to think that any of them are going to win more than 6-7 games a year unless football all of a sudden becomes a top priority at Georgia Tech the way it is at the University of Georgia and Clemson.
Good post Tampa, but your last paragraph is gold and should be push pinned on each Tech board. Can anybody believe the President of uga or Clem would survive a 6-7 win run for even a short number of years ? Once support at the Top is in place, the money may not be such a hurdle. We would still have to do a good job once the support and $ were in place (some teams have this and still fail), but I'd bet we would do well. Plus, the corporate world would still line up to lure our grads with great salaries without any trace of holding it against them because we have a winning football team.

I'm not so sure we wouldn't have this issue with any demanding coach. It would be similar, but way different than converting from the TO, which btw is far from the greatest transition in the history of CFB. Ross figured it out.

I love the 3O but admit it’s a polarizing offense and probably best to stay away from.

GC needs to go and needs to go now. Do you realize your expectations are so low that you’ll keep him so long as he makes a bowl in his 6th year? Tech football will be dead by then.

Bare in mind, I have listed these head football coaches in no particular order.

1. Jamey Chadwell, age 44, Currently the head football coach at Coastal Carolina (They are 9-2 this year) Annual salary: $850,000. Despite his young age, he has been a head coach in college for 12 seasons (at 4 different schools). Total Head Coaching Record: 88-44.

2. Shawn Clark, age 46, Currently the head football coach at Appalachian State (They are currently 9-2 this year) Annual salary: N/A. He has only been a head coach for 2 full seasons and coached App. State in a bowl game in '19, which they won. Total Head Coaching Record:19-5

3. Chris Klieman, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Kansas State (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: $3.1 Million. He won 4 National Titles at North Dakota State. Total Head Coaching Record: 91-28.

4. Kalen DeBoer, age 47, Currently the head football coach at Fresno State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: $N/A. He coached Sioux Falls to 3 NAIA Championships. Total Head Coaching Record: 78-9

5. Billy Napier, age 42, Currently the head football coach at Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (They are currently 10-1) Annual salary: N/A. He coached at Clemson, under Dabo, for several years. He grew up in Chatsworth, GA and his father was a head football coach. Total Head Coaching Record: 38-12

6. Hugh Freeze, age 52, Currently the head football coach at Liberty (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: 3 Million. The drawback to him is he was involved in recruiting violations while at Ole Miss. Total Head Coaching Record: 67-42.

7. Dave Doeren, age 50, Currently the head football coach at NC. State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: 3.2 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 86-53

8. Jeff Traylor, age 53, Currently the head coach at UTSA (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: N/A. He only has two years of head coaching experience, however. Total Head Coaching Record: 18-5

9. Dave Clawson, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Wake Forest (They are currently 9-2) Annual salary: 2.1 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 139-126

10. Luke Fickell, age 48, Currently the head football coach at Cincinnati (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: 3.4 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 52-21. Of all of these on the list, Coach Fickell would be my top choice for Tech to hire. However, he would be the most difficult to agree to come to Tech, too. Schools like LSU would have more money and appeal to lure him. Nevertheless, it could be possible.

As some have said recently, it will cost Georgia Tech more NOT to fire Coach Collins than to keep him on for another year or two. While we still have talent, the time is now to get someone who knows what they are doing. If not, we will lose more money, lose talented players via the transfer portal, and our entire athletic program will suffer as a result. This is the worst situation I have seen Tech's football program in my lifetime. I'm too young to remember clearly the period from 1979 to 1981.

Ironically, former Tech players are a big part of this mess. Todd Stansbury, the current AD and the main culprit for this horrible situation, played for Coach Curry in the early 1980s. Brent Key, currently Offensive Line Coach and Assistant Head Coach, played for Coach O'Leary in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Marco Coleman, current Defensive Line Coach, played for Coach Ross on the 1990 National Title Team. Nate Burton, Current Co-Defensive Coordinator/Safety's Coach, played for Coach Gailey in the 2000s. Will Glover, current Quality Control Specialist/Offense, played for both Coach O'Leary and Coach Gailey. Errin Joe, current Associate Director of Player Personnel, played for Coach Johnson. And even Tashard Choice, current Running Backs Coach, who played for Coach Gailey in the 2000s, and has actually done a good job with our running backs is a apart of this unsuccessful staff.

I can't imagine how much it bothers ALL of these former Tech players to see how bad Tech's football team has become. However, that may be our saving grace. They all want Tech to succeed. Maybe, they can come together and for the good of the program each offer some of their salary to help pay for a coaching change. Or unite together and talk with wealthy Tech donors to persuade them to put up the needed money to dismiss Coach Collins of his duties and hire a good head football coach.

GO JACKETS!

Giving Collins anything other than an F automatically makes your opinion invalid. The man is a Failure through and through.

Sounds right except the 6 year part. No bowl hunt next year and that's it. And then there's that UGAg game this weekend. If all 4 wheels pop off and/or heaven forbid the team quit I honestly think that could be it.

You are joking right? 5 wins in year four gets him to year 5??? Have you seen Bobby Dodd attendance lately? Can you please share what you are smoking?
After how CPJ was treated Jeff Monken will not come to the Flats.... CPJ should have a statue outside of Bobby Dodd.... SMFH I find it crazy how folks would rather win 3 games a year and not win, instead of hiring a winner like Jeff Monken, becuase he is like CPJ (The only coach in Modern History to leade GT two 2 Orange Bowls and a top 10 finish)....Please share what you are smoking I will need some this Saturday!

No joking here. Rapid firing of coaches seldom yields good results. I do not like Collins. But, he has had only three years. He did have to transition personnel from CPJ’s offense, although he has overstated the magnitude of this and thereby alienated many. And, no one can say he has faced a normal situation with the pandemic.

Here is what should happen. We give our money, buy our tickets, and hope for improvement next year. If year four finds us at three wins plus or minus one, the whole football world would agree he should go. Now, many would think he did not get a fair chance if we fire him. That limits who you can hire. It creates another set of disgruntled players.

But, please understand, this comes from someone who thought he was a bad hire from day one and never drank the juice. I just think you have to be patient sometimes, and live an appropriate time with your mistakes.

I disagree, when we went from Bill Lewis to George Oleary it worked.... Rapid firing of coaches this is not, the guy has been given enough time to coach the boys up.(with the staff of his choice, with 40% more staff than CPJ ever had) If CGC gets a fourth year the stadium will be empty and no one will be to blame but the GTAA & AD!

If they flush the current staff I want the next one to be a decisive slam dunk. The plan absolutely cannot be let's fire Collins and then see what's out there. Before firing Collins is an option there had damn well better be a great option ready to go.

The act of firing Collins is a big money we're serious about winning right now move. So in that vein ... how about Urban Renewal in the 404? The GT connections are already there. He already has a good DE/DL coach and RB coach. Let Collins and Morpheus stick around as the digital, branding, and recruiting braintrust where they actually do excel. It would be a sea change in reputation outside the program. And shy of also somehow hiring Spurrier it would be about the most hated hire imaginable in Athens, which is a nice bonus.

Maybe. IMO I haven't seen anything from Collins and company indicating reason for improvement. If we can get one the coaches listed in another thread we should do so immediately.
One more year will only bring more discontent.

Well since the NIU game they shoudl have been searching for a new coach, again the GTAA and the AD are to blame if they do not have a replacement on deck!

An AD worth his salary always keeps a “next coach” list in his back pocket.
