What do you guys think of this, hit link above to tell him what you think!

I hate to break it to all the Johnson fans, but dont expect anything special!

Just because there is a new face and attitude doesnt mean there wont be the same old GT problems. Just like when Gailey came to GT everybody was excited for a change. Ya theres a difference in the blocking and rushing scheme but where is the GREAT news about the passing game?

Everybody speaks so highly of this guy, but i can garauntee almost nobody has even seen a game coached by him! Just a reminder he came from Navy...ya, Navy. The same team that prided themselves on finishing 8-5 last year, while losing to the only ranked opponent they played 41-24! That ranked opponent, Rutgers...Who, OH BY THE WAY, DIDNT finish ranked!!

WHERES THE LOVE FOR GAILEY!!

I actually have watched Coach Johnson coach down at Georgia Southern, and I am going to tell you it is some exciting football to watch, and he is a damn good coach because he knows one thing... how to win!!

maybe if this guy had the bizalls to come to this site and tell me his opinion then I would waste my time responding to his comment until then, if anyone else can prove me wrong, try me!

I was never at excited about Gailey being hired...not sure I met anyone who really ever was.

For me, the Gailey hiring was like, "Wha???" In fact, I wasn't even sure who he was, LOL. EVERYONE who knows anything about college football knows who CPJ is. This guy was a highly sought-after coach. I don't remember people bidding high dollars for Gailey's services. I thought he did ok at Tech and wasn't as bad as many have made him out to be but we needed a COLLEGE coach and we got one. CPJ is a winner and its proven.

I'll say this. I've made some jokes at Chan's expense in the post-Chan era. But he never did anything during his time at Tech to bring embarrassment to the Institute. Except maybe losing to UGA every time. We did have winning records every year, we did almost win the ACC, and we did have some exciting wins. The AA decided that 7-5 seasons, with a loss to UGA every year was no longer acceptable, and a change was made.

What I don't understand is why someone would throw a wet blanket on the excitement most of us feel for the future. But hey, I know enough pessimistic Tech fans to know better.

That is called "a dawg" in these parts. Please update your vocabulary.

LOL, I am loving the debate on my site though, need more of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I salute your hustle Mr. Oliver.

I for one am to lazy to register for ANOTHER message board. I'm already a member of like 15 of them. :wow:

My exact thoughts when Gailey was hired...I remember exactly where I was at the time..."Chan Gailey, Chan Gailey, Chan Gailey........the guy the Cowboys fired a few years back?"

Definitely wasn't excited and was pissed off he screwed the pooch on his first recruiting class...no offense to Chri Reis or Cooper or Matthews. There was noone else in that class worth a darn.... I mean, I PERFECTION HARRIS?

Has -zack- won the argument, everybody is silent?

Adamm, I appreciate your an ex-football player and all, but if you want me to come register to your site, offer something more than BOTD's of famous people I can find on any google search and some 6th grade football arguement by some guy who doesn't have a lot upstairs.

You want us to visit your site regularly, write a blog, interview players, keep up the good work with the ex-player round table discussions. That works. that's something that the other boards don't have.

I don't need to come over to MeetTheMachine to get involved in a dumb ass arguement I could read over on BO, the Hive and soemtimes even here. There's already too many boards for that BS.

I gotta agree with BOR.

This argument has been rehashed over and over again on several boards already. Noone is going to change anyone's mind at this point until Johnson either improves the program, maintains status quo, or fails miserably.

So it's a waste of time and energy at this point.

This particular poster touts most if not all of the usual reasons for Johnson skepticism.

I attempt to summarize them here without editorial comment, though my position on CPJ is pretty well known:

1. Chan Gailey Support
a. Love of Chan Gailey, resentment of his firing, redirection of that to Johnson.
b. Belief that GT's potential is not that high, just winning at all is an accomplishment, that Gailey was therefore doing a good job and noone can do that much better.
c. Belief that Gailey was on the verge of major turnaround due to strong recruiting and new OC.

2. Resentment at firing/hiring process
a. Fear of karmic retribution, that is, GT deserves to suck for firing a good coach with a winning record.
b. Resentment at rumors of alumni and board interference in hiring process.
c. Resentment that Johnson was hired over their favorite candidate.

3. Triple Option apprehension
a. Belief that TO has a natural limit of effectiveness as offensive talent level rises.
b. Belief that TO won't work against speed and quickness of ACC/SEC defenses.
c. Belief that TO will limit recruiting.
d. Belief that TO is antiquated and easy to stop.
e. Fear of repercussions of conversion to a unique system when the next coach is brought in.
f. Emotional dislike of unconventionality.
g. Belief that GT's schemes and strategies should emulate those of more successful programs.

4. Irrelevance of D1AA and service academy experience to major CFB:
a. Belief in natural coaching competency ceilings at lower levels.
b. Belief that lower level CFB recruiting experience is not relevant to recruitment of top ACC/SEC level athletes.
c. Belief that Navy's weak schedules gave them equal or superior talent levels to their opponents.
d. Belief that relative talent level to opponents is irrelevant.
e. Belief that major D1A athletes are prima donnas that require different coaching techniques.

Does that about cover it, or did I miss something?
