John Lovett is Miami's defensive coordinator. John Lovett was the defensive assistant at UNC last year. UNC was one of the teams that really shut down our offense. Do you think this will be a factor in the Miami game?

I am sure CPJ has factored this into his game plan, but I am still nervous after learning this.

Shut down or got takeaways? Based on the yardage, it was much more of the latter than the former.

Excerpts from my post in the "Lot of Haters" thread

Stats of note:

First downs: GT- 20, UNC- 13
Passing yds: GT- 97, UNC- 128
Rushing yds: GT- 326, UNC- 186
Total yds: GT- 423, UNC -314
Turnovers: GT- 3, UNC- 0

GT turned the ball over ON DOWNS on UNC's 45 and 18 in the first half and missed two 40+ yard field goals in the first half.

UNC's three fourth quarter TD drives started inside GT's 40.

Lovett was UNC's special teams coordinator...I'm sure he helped out with the D as an assistant but it was not his main responsibility.

Unless Miami has learned to tackle(which from the FSU game I don't think they have) our offense should be ok.

Our D probably needs to step up.

Makes me a feel a bit better. I am just looking at all the aspects of this game.

Speaking of, has anyone truly "shut down" the offense? I know we have had some low scoring games, but I think those are results of turnovers not necessarily a defensive coordinator scheme.

The only team i've ever seen "Shut down" the flexbone was the Montana Griz who beat GSU 45-0 in the freezing cold.

I have never seen GSU get shut down even when playing good FBS teams... in fact, at points after half, Georgia Southern has lead Auburn, Florida State, East Carolina and more with their FCS recruits and less schollys.

I sure do miss the flexbone at GSU!
