We're way deep at B Back. Dwyer, Watson, Lyons likely the 3 deep here.

We're way deep at A Back. Jones, Allen, Wright, Peeples, likely the 2 deep / 4 man rotation here.

Where does that leave Cox? Can he play line? Can he redshirt?

I think Cox is still our best blocking A back. That should earn him some points.

But his body seems built for B-back, so I can see him getting a few carries that way.

Hrmm.

Is it in our best interests to rotate 5 guys at A back?

Just because he isn't a likely starter doesn't mean he won't play significant minutes. I dont think Dwyer or Roddy will get as many snaps this year either. You guys also have to be realistic that there will be injuries. I hope it doesn't happen, but 8 RB's could turn into 5 RB's at midseason. Who knows???

When Sewak spoke to my local GT club last summer, he was lamenting our lack of depth at A-back, saying that in this system they liked to have 6 ready to play at any time, because they were typically little guys going up against bigger linebackers play after play.

This concerns me a little bit. I know that CPJ likes to have depth at certain positions, but how does this effect recruiting/preparing depth at other key positions i.e. OL/DL

It would worry me more if I thought we were trying to keep 6 active guys handy to exclusively play A-back, but it looks like we have at least 3 guys who are rotating (or can rotate) between A and B (including Cox).

Considering that we don't recruit tight ends and probably recruit fewer receivers than others, our numbers on the line shouldn't suffer. From the lunch bunch reports, CPJ is lamenting our low OL numbers now and plans to get them up.

You better be 3 deep at RB, to keep fresh legs in the game and because of injuries. Luke Cox showed me last year there will be a place on the field for him. Four B backs and six or seven A backs are not too many for our offense. And, we need 3 QB's ready to play.

Pepper's best wishbone offense had Myers, Sims, Head, and Rucker as starters in '75. Auburn, with their patented spearing, took out Sims and Myers in mid-season. We did not have adequate replacements and the offense never recovered. With depth, that 7-4 team may have well been a 9-2 or 10-1 team.

Well if that's the case, then I guess we're right at where we need to be.

What have Watson and Lyons (who?) done to supplant Cox at B-back? He's got a home there for sure.

And you're never as deep as you think you are.

I also don't understand the lack of recoginition for Cox. He was huge in the Miami game and showed that he can give you 30+ with a BIG FRAME and that is huge. As long as he doesn't fumble there will always be a place for him in this 400+ yd ground attack.

I think at B-Back the 4 deep should be Dwyer, Allen, Watson, Cox.

No offense, but how in the hell does Watson supplant Cox after what Cox did last year?

I have to agree with the redshirt idea. I hate to make a kid like Cox redshirt, but I think the coaches seriously need to look into just that. Once Dwyer and Allen are gone, Cox and Watson are going to be expected to carry the load.

PJ Daniels would agree with this statement.

Cox saw a lot of action last year at a non-native position due to depth issues. He played great, but conventional thinking is we have even better players at both B and A nowadays.

If the coaches think we need to go 6 deep at A, then Cox is needed at A again this year, which pretty much nullifies the whole thread. I just didn't think we'd go that deep at A. But I'm not a pro like they are.

Watson hasn't played a single down and Lyons is a walk-on. Cox has a place at B-back.

I think part of the reason we are entertaining this question is that we've never had the depth we currently enjoy in the running game. There is nothing like a pair of fresh legs in the fourth quarter when the yards are hard to come by and the linebackers have lost a half-step from fatigue.

Cox will get his touches. CPJ understands how to use a depth chart.

Ooh, I remember that game! Cold, dreary day, but we jumped to the BIG lead and then in the 2nd half, every time they scored, the sun would break through the clouds. We scored late on a long pass to Raible, but it was called back for holding. They won in a great comeback. But we got them the next year in cow town. Was it Myers and Sims? I thought it was Head and Ivery that got hurt, but it is now officially a LONG time ago.
