Mascot

If those were our only options I'd lobby for going back to being the Golden Tornado (if we couldn't just get by with the Ramblin Wreck).
 
When I was in HS, one of our rival schools used nearly an exact replica of the Buzz logo for their mascot, the Hornets. I think they had it flipped facing the other way though
 
wasn't there a minor league baseball team called "the buzz" that used a logo very similar to buzz. i think there was a legal issue and they were forced to stop using it.
 
I personally like my Jacket image -- a ninja/samurai Jacket is cool. Now if there was a pirate Jacket, that might be better -- but that is still up for debate. :)

It was the Salt Lake Buzz. They didn't use the mascot, but they used the word "Buzz", which is a trademark owned by Tech. They eventually lost the case and changed their name to the Bees.

I recognize that Buzz *is* GT and have plenty of gear with Buzz on it, but I think the old logos before Buzz that looked much more like a real yellow jacket were much cooler. If I have a choice I prefer to buy stuff with the "GT" logo vs. Buzz.

When the Wreck was restored a couple years ago, it was redone using the OLD yellow jacket mascot for some of the graphics and the upholstery, and Buzz is nowhere to be seen.

Those are pretty gay looking but on the other hand if we had something that would annoy the Hell out of opponents like Barney the Dinosaur that could be a viable strategy too.
 
Growing up in the Salt Lake City area, I actually knew of the Yellow Jackets years before coming to Tech ... Y'all may recall a few years back (maybe 10ish years?) there was a fisaco with the Triple-A team in Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake Buzz. (We like to ZZ on the end of our sports teams out here, don't ask me why) Their mascot was an almost identical copy of Buzz and they were using the Buzz name on the mascot and team (though the logo was nothing like the GT Buzz), so Tech sued them over copyright infringement. Tech won and the Buzz became the Stingers (no zz for some reason) and are now the Bees. Let's just say, we have the good mascot... they don't. Worst of all, his name is Bumble, chosen by a vote... *shakes head a Utahns*

I would love a hat or shirt with the Wreck on it.
