Matt Winkeljohn in love with Chan Gailey?

Well, everything he said was true, so you can't really argue with him. Plus where did you see him blaming Brooks for anything? Along with the lack of journalistic integrity alert, we probably need a lack or rational response alert.

BTW, no where in the piece does he absolve Chan of anything... he simply points out a myriad of mistakes we made in the game. All are Chan's responsibility.

The same can usually be said for any team during any game, mistakes are a part of the game, BUT we had overcome those mistakes and were driving for the game winning score unitl Chan got the warm and fuzzies for a 42-yard FG and started running the prevent offense.

Anybody watch the LSU game last night? See any differences between the way Les Miles coaches and the way Chan does?

ding ding ding...and they had everything to lose and still went for it.

Chan is a wimp.

Winners want to win...not "not lose". Winners have faith in their players. Sure, LSU has more talent to work with, but MD isn't near as talented as UF, so its all relative. Miles put the game in his players hands, period. That last series of ours was classic Gailey.

#3 is dumb.

Durant Brooks was almost always punting from their side of the 50...

Well, I don't think Matt is originally a Tech fan. I think he, like many other non-Tech fans, see Tech as a middle-tier kind of team, that does remarkably well at 7-5 compared to other middle-tier schools. And that we should be darn happy that we aren't struggling just to stay out of the cellar. To people like him, the only teams that are ever going to get up in the Top 10 consistently are traditional powerhouses like Texas, Michigan, and USC.

I get this reaction from many non-Tech fans I meet outside the state or the South. They just don't understand why we aren't content with simply a winning record. "I don't understand why you don't like Gailey," I was once told. "Tech is a tough school. By all rights, you should be in the cellar with Duke and Vandy. Yet you guys manage to get in a bowl every year. What's the problem!? I'd be thrilled with that."

I just had to shake my head in disgust.

Mistakes are part of the game --but overcoming mistakes and pulling out a W are what separate the good teams from the middle-of-the-road ones.

MaconGT is right --Les Miles went out and said, "boys, we're winning this game now". Les Miles did everything right last night and it paid off for him and his football team. It was the polar opposite of what Chan Gailey decided to do yesterday afternoon, "boys, we'll run 4 times and win with a 40+ yard FG opportunity, nevermind that we've passed at will in the 2nd half, in fact, we won't even put our QB behind center --we'll just let the defense know that we're going to run". ...aauughh!

Good teams make plays to win games --whether it be fielding a punt late in a game or playing smart and pulling off of a block when your beaten instead of getting a holding call to put your team out of winning FG range.

Good teams have a head coach that sometimes takes a chance when things don't go as planned --like a holding call at the most inopportune time. Good head coached know when to get out of safe mode and gives his team an opportunity to make a play and win a game.

GT has not done what good teams do --they have done what middle-of-the-road teams do. Hence where we are as a football program today.
