Matthew Jordan Lore

Matthew Jordan has type-1 diabetes, so he has to regulate his blood sugar with shots of insulin and quick sources of sugar. This is a real challenge for athletes, since they are burning so many calories during a game. CPJ mentioned at the post-game presser that Matthew was eating gummy bears to keep his sugar up. This is the kind of personal challenge that makes an athlete a candidate for the ACC Brian Piccolo award. I don't know how many of the fans are aware of this, so it seems a good place for a reminder.

Forgot about this. A few people in my family have this, and it can really be hard to deal with depending on the person/situation.

Glad he's getting a great education and a chance to take over the reigns for a few years.

I know friends with Type1 that can adjust their insulin to get drunk quickly or take forever. I wonder if he can adjust to give himself super energy for more of those long TD runs

There are summer camps for diabetic kids where they can learn to regulate their blood sugar. At home, a lot of the kids are used to sitting around the house watching TV, but when they go to camp, they are playing sports and running around a lot. It makes a big change in their treatment routine, and sometimes they can collapse from hypoglycemia just running bases or playing soccer, because they aren't used to the activity level.
