Maybe choice has been made

Disagree. Early November is the time to make a move if you want to try to retain the current class and pick up a few before early signing day. If we accept that Brent Key has been eliminated, then J Batt should be at the height of the hiring process right now in terms of vetting candidates and putting out feelers.

Which part are you disagreeing with? Putting out feelers is not the same as hiring a coach. It's extremely unlikely we will hire a new coach before late November/early December unless it's someone currently out of coaching. No coach is leaving their job 8-9 games into the season.

I think they'll announce who it is sooner rather than later. You don't have to take over right away to be the next guy.

Can you provide precedent for a coach publicly accepting another job with several games left at his current position? These things virtually always happen after the regular season is complete.

If it is Deion ... the worst case scenario is you completely flip over the apple cart in Athens when it comes to recruiting. Think Mike London at UVA. He couldn't coach for squat. But he could recruit big time. And Mike London severed the pipeline from the Tidewater to Blacksburg. The Hokies haven't been the same since and haven't been able to re-establish those recruiting pipelines since. Mike London failed at making UVA good... but he was supremely effective at making VT bad. I can live with making U[sic]GA bad as the best outcome of Deion. It isn't like GT's team could possibly play much worse anyway.

Off the top of my head I know several SEC coordinators have taken jobs and stayed on to coach their final regular season game, their CCG, and their playoff game.

Nothing says they have to stick it out at their current job either. Ralph Friedgen left immediately for the UMD head coaching job with games left in the GT season.

Friedgen was hired at Maryland four days after the UGA game. I definitely understand that plenty of coordinators have stayed on to coach postseason games after being named head coaches, but I can't specifically name any that have been hired elsewhere in the regular season.

And I'm also skeptical that our next coach will be a current coordinator. I mentioned Petrino earlier because he was the only head coach I could think of who bolted midseason for another job. It's a pretty bad look, and a big reason why these hires nearly always occur after the regular season is complete.

I would think Auburn would have far more resources, money and abilities that Deion would want. I get it.. Deion isn't hurting for money... But, I highly doubt he would leave a school, where his kids are playing, for us... I could be wrong.. But, I just don't see him leaving, unless it was a deal he couldn't refuse. I don't we have the money to make that deal worth it.

Auburn wouldn’t want Deion, he’s not somebody that Auburn boosters would think represents them well. They’re gonna get somebody like Todd Monken or Hugh Freeze.

I have it on good authority we have sent an official correspondence to Deion Sanders.

Fuente doesn't bear any responsibility in VPI's decline?
London got two or three 5 stars to UVa. He did recruit.

Nobody is going to get hired before the season is over unless it is someone currently unemployed. Nobody from another school is interviewing during the season. Back channel discussions between search committee and agents are happening to gauge interest and set up future meetings, but we are not hiring anybody until after the season.

Brian Kelly left ND at the end of the regular season, but they still had a chance at a CFP invite when he did so.

Not disagreeing. I am just saying that I would rate Auburn above us, as a head coaching destination. Pay will be at least 20% more, maybe more depending on who Auburn goes fishing for.
