Easier said than done. The offense can score points but the offense can't score more points alone without the defense helping them.
I see win-win situation with offenses that can score while running slow and methodical drives. It gives your defense time to rest up. It also keeps the other defense on the field.
If I were to choose between a team that can score in 5 seconds vs. a team that can score while keeping the other defense on the field for a while (and thereby controlling the clock), I would take the latter every single time. As fun as it may be to watch a big play offenses, I'd trade that in for a rested defense that is more likely to help the offense score more points.
Again, easier said than done. What is more likely? That our defense stopped before the clock read 0:00? Or our defense was exhausted because our offense had so many 3-and-outs with the ball?
