Miami Game

I take it you are satisfied with our season thus far. You are satisfied with last years finish. You are good with the things the way they are. I am not. But please don't lecture me on what it means to be a fan. I agree we have quality young men on our team, but I don't look for them to show up Saturday. They have disengaged from this staff. They will play out the string, and like me, hope for something better in the future.

Are you addressing me? If you have read any of my post before you know I am not at all satisfied with this season. It also sounds like you think they will just give up on Chan, they wont. As much as some people have grown to despise him this year these kids love him and will keep working hard for him, there not looking at the future they are looking at right now and what they need to do to beat Miami.

What I truly want is for Gailey to somehow win nine game convincingly to finish out the year and win the Peach bowl against a respectable opponent like Tennessee. That scenario won't most likely occur, but I'd rather have the games play out than to ever, ever root against GT. With DRad at the helm, I trust the right coaching decision will be made regardless of the season's results.

And if you didn't notice, Miami's coming off a loss to UNC. In fact, it was UNC's first win other than James Madison six games into the season. Maryland was coming off the Rutgers win and GT actually outgained them by a pretty good margin. GT has a chance, and a very good chance, in this game.

As always, your information and posts are greatly appreciated, demjackets.

I certainly hope to see the GT team that showed up for ND or Clemson as opposed to the team that showed up in the first half of UVa or MD.

Any comments?

Yes...I have comments.

DemJackets post was appropriate and good football talk for this time of year.

Your post is not appropriate or helpful in October...but is more suited after Dec. 1 if you want to banter about coaches. I will reserve comment until that time as all the facts will be in...barring a complete meltdown sooner. Any opinions and flaming posts talking about firing the HC prior to that time can only hurt recruiting and the players that have a long season ahead of them to play. When you hurt those things you damage the program...because it affects the current staff or next staff in a negative manner.

demjackets...I agree that everyone on this team has a reason to want this game badly. The OL being so severely banged up (even the ones that are playing) along with Choice being hampered is what scares me the most. However, OL penalties being limited will be key to me...as both losses may have been decided late in the game by one simple penalty.

You dare to put words into my mouth while whining about me putting words into yours? What a crock. Lets look at what I posted:

From those three letters you somehow inferred that I'm happy with the way this season has gone? I hear Hillary Clinton is hiring a campaign manager, maybe you should call her up. QFT = quoted for truth = I agree with the statement quoted. Lets take a look at that statement, shall we?

Anyone that wants us to lose so that Gailey gets fired needs to rethink what it means to be a fan.

Now you tell me, Yukon, was that directed at you or not? If you think that statement fits you, then clearly you do need some lecturing about what it means to be a fan. If you don't think that statement fits you, then clearly I'm not lecturing you. Pick one. I don't care which, because in either case I'd only be lecturing those who deserve it.

Actually I was specifically addressing Kyle, but in a larger sense, I suppose any post on a board is addressing anyone who will listen. I do believe the kids will give up on the coaching staff. Maybe not this weekend, but it will take only a loss or two more. This is not a well oiled machine. We are 3-6 in our last nine games, with two of those wins being over a pathetic ND team, and a walkover of Samford. The effort by our players is not in question. They have fought and clawed, and scrapped every inch of the way. They deserve better. Surely there are 10,000 Tech fans willing to kick in $400 per to buy the contract out. I have been accused of pulling against Tech--which is not true and never will be. But a loss will help the big picture--IMHO. In other words--after we lose Saturday, I won't feel nearly as bad as I did after Georgia beat us 51-7, or after we lost the ACC championship because we couldn't score one touchdown with the best receiver in the country, or after went to Duke and let them hang 41 on us.

Okay Beej----grow a thicker skin, or try to follow the thread. My post was specifically addressed to Kyle and his "fan" comment. I enjoy all the comments however. At least my thoughts are being read, if not appreciated. You will all be on my side of the aisle come December. FWIW, I don't think anyone could love Georgia Tech and Georgia Tech athletics more than I. I have been in the stands to see Don Meredith and SMU at Grant Field, all the way to our Citrus Bowl win in 1990. I saw Rufus Guthrie stuff Joe Namath on the two point conversion, Scott Sisson break Virginia's heart. I don't particularly like what I see now.

I don't think the kids will give up on the team this week. I think they will be just the opposite. Beating Miami 3 yrs. in a row and doing it on national TV definitely gives them something to play for. Miami is not a good football team. It is a game we should win and I think we will win. But if our coaching staff comes out playing for field goals anyone can beat us.

We will all be enlightened by Sunday. Maybe I am full of it and this week is the start of us running the table, winning a big bowl game and signing Chan up for life.

If you've been following Tech football at all for the past couple of years you know we will win this game. That's just the way it works.

Now you tell me, Yukon, was that directed at you or not?

beej67,
wants to know the answer to that question. Do you want us to lose so Gailey gets fired or not?

Asked and answered, counselor. But I will repeat. Come Saturday, under the azure Florida skies, my ramblin' wreck replica will be on the TV table, my GT hat will be on my head, Buzz flag flying on the front porch, coffee will be in the GT cup, too hot in Tampa for sweatshirts, so the Tech tee will be donned, beers will be opened with the opener that plays the fight song, Buzz doll will be the sofa so he can see the TV, GT Crocs--yep, GT crocs will be on my big smelly feet, and all my sentiments will be pulling for the Jackets. But my right brain still functions on occasion, and I can process the data that I take in. We aren't likely to win this game. There won't be any inclination toward wrist slashing Saturday night, because---and I hope to see "all good fellows" posting here then---more and more observers will be concluding what I have already been convinced of--a change is necessary. Either change the coach, or change the expectations as Vandy or Duke, or Indiana, or Rice have. Let our National Championship days morph into great and fond memories, deserving our our reverence--but throw away any future hope of ever being a big time program again. The woods are full of USF's, and UCF's and Troy's and East Carolina's , etc that can play. We are losing ground every day this continues. Hey, but that's just me.
