Michael Johnson is Freakin HUGE!!!!

BTW, note the "Georgia Tech at Georgia, November 29" stenciled on the wall behind MJ. That should be enough motivation for everyone of them.

And that is why Paul Johnson gives us all hope. This is college football. A date on a calendar circled. A mission to focus on. A goal to strive for. Do you think the Dallas Cowboys or the Falcons pick out one opponent late in the season to focus their preseason preparation on? Coach Johnson knows young men, and he knows college game, and he will have them ready. I've said many times, and I will repeat, we may not beat Georgia this year but I will be utterly surprised if it isn't a very tight game right to the end.

Transformation? The dude has always been a freak. I saw him a lot at woodruff.

Im going to disagree, he's always been a big guy, and had a lot of strength but he hasn't had that much mass. I think he really busted his ass this off season it looks like he's getting rewarded for it. Hopefully it pays dividends on the field as well.

you mean like the two years before this last year? 15-12 and 14-7; in both we had a chance to win despite not really matching up in the personnel department

close is what we have been, a change would be to win it.

i dont know why you guys insist on revisionist history

Eh, last years game wasn't close. Those previous two weren't really all that close either. Even when we were winning the outcome really was never in doubt.

You're out of your mind. The previous two were 1-play-makes-the-difference games. Last year was God Screwing Us.

That one play was never going to happen. The result was inevitable. Gailey would never beat Georgia. Never.

My only critique is I'm hoping all of those bicep curls were for the camera. That's a pure ego exercise.

just look at post number 2 and post number 11! if you don't see a difference....you're an idiot.

Any 6'7" guy is going to look like a freak no matter what, but his neck and his arms weren't that big. I remember his freshman year he looked like a giraffe with a hemlet on. I would say he has definitely transformed...

I dont see any revisionist history here. No one is saying that Gailey did not give us close games. All Yukon was saying was that despite what many people in Georgia Country think about us having a new coach and having a "rebuilding year", we will still competitive on Thanksgiving weekend because PJ is a winner and he knows how to get teams motivated.

Check out these quotes...

No one ever said stuff like that about Chan and that's a fact. PJ is a different kind of competitor that knows how to win a rivalry game. So you would you please quit running around trying to defend his honor every time someone even insinuates something less than positive about him...

Yeah, that was my first thought too. Why the hell are they doing curls? That's not functional strength at all...

Also, they called this a shoulder press.

:ugh: That is a donkey calf raise. At least get the muscle right, AJC.

If we have the same weight trainer as the last few years, he stresses "football strength". That guy is good and I haven't seen us wearing down physically at the end of games anymore.

Maybe the curls are for holding onto the football when you recover a fumble at the bottom of the pile.

Maybe his goal is to get everyone's arms so big and jacked that the other team is so intimidated that they forfeit.

Seriously though, biceps are used in pulling motions. There aren't many pulling motions in football, unless you're trying to drag down someone to make a tackle. Furthermore biceps are worked in a lot of back exercises already. It's really a waste of time for football players to be doing curls. The only thing I can think of is that they're warming up their tendons for more strenuous exercises.

this is what i was thinking, the old 20oz strategy!

we just drop down and do like 50 one-handed pushups and crush cans of soda with the biceps until the other team just walks off the field, or runs

The bigger thing here is that there is not functional pulling motion where you don't engage your back muscles as well. For strength training there is always a simple rule to follow: compound is always better than isolation.

Isolations exercises are for bodybuilders and guidos.

At least he is not on a curling bench. Doing curls like he's doing here definitely has a much wider impact.

Plus, why would the AJC ever put in a picture of a football player doing squats and power clings? There's no street cred in that!
