5. I Think I Believe Michael Johnson is going to make a lot of draft gurus look bad.

Scott looked great with the ball, but Cincinnati's best rookie on the field very well could have been Johnson, the third-round pick from Georgia Tech. He played nearly every snap between defensive end and special teams. He played pretty much in the nickel with every group, including the first team, and he played most of the special teams.

Remember how the gurus said he fell out of the top five because of his lack of motor and toughness? He couldn't get off the field Friday. Take this one sequence where he helped make a third-down tackle and then made the tackle on the ensuing punt. He ended up with three tackles from scrimmage, one for a loss, and a pass defensed.

I have no idea what the record is, but I Think I Believe Johnson is going to challenge it for passes defensed in a season.

This may be a really dumb question but what is a "Pass Defensed?"

Great to see MJ making some noise. He is going to prove a lot of people wrong.

or more likely "passes defended"

s and d are next to each other on the keyboard...

It could also be dropping into coverage instead of rushing the QB and preventing the catch. Or like the Miami game, actually catching it!

'passes defensed' means the ball was thrown to the guy you were responsible for or into your zone. so it could mean passes batted down, intercepted, or caught by the opponent.

its like the number of plays that you were "active" and the play went into your zone.

they collect it so that they can make DB and LB comparisons, mostly. since the number of INTs depends on how many balls went your way, the number of 'passes defensed' is counted

other example: http://steelerstoday.com/?tag=passes-defensed

Bryant McFadden has played in about half as many games as Ike Taylor, yet he has the same number of career interceptions. Ike Taylor averages the lowest number of interceptions per game among the Steelers’ 3 key cornerbacks. This is particularly disappointing because Taylor averages the highest number of passes defensed per game. That means that he has more opportunities to make interceptions. However, when you look at his ratio of interceptions to passes defensed, Taylor’s ratio is less than half that of either Bryant McFadden or DeShea Townsend. Both Townsend and McFadden will make approximately one interception for each 4 passes defensed. Taylor, on the other hand, intercepts one pass out of every 10 passes defensed.

That pass from Marve was a thing of beauty.

It's a shame that both of the Johnsons are stuck on teams that are terrible.

Lions could end up being a pretty good team before his contract is up. You give a franchise enough top 3 picks and eventually they can't help but become decent, especially if management isn't terrible(bye Matt Millen!)

I was watching the Saints game and saw Johnson dropping back in coverage on zone blitz packages. He was in position several times to make a similar type play if the QB makes that throw.
