I am surprised that is against the rules.I would assume sending a staff member to an opponent's game.

It doesn't seem like much but not every school can afford to send staff members out to a bunch of their opponent's games, and that would create an unfair advantage to the ones who could send multiple guys to multiple games, etc.I am surprised that is against the rules.
I am guessing schools already do this. Example: They probably know that 95% of the time on a 3rd down and 7+ the QB needs to look for a running lane against us.It doesn't seem like much but not every school can afford to send staff members out to a bunch of their opponent's games, and that would create an unfair advantage to the ones who could send multiple guys to multiple games, etc.
Who wants to bet that there isn't a dwag spy at all the Michigan/Ohio St. Oklahoma/etc. games looking for a chink in their defensive armor?
I think it is true. This whole sign stealing thing may be a clue why we suck so badly after halftime. In general we’ve kept up with our opponents in the 1st half and bombed the 2nd half. We’ve also heard how much our schemes have been simplified into oblivion, which if sign stealing is happening would be the opposite of what we should be doing. With CPJ we never had this problem on offense. He had a rotation of A backs to run the plays in.
Thoughts?
The sign stealing thing is so dum to me. It's not stealing signs to simply watch the play that happens after you do hand binoculars followed by a mimed axe chop or whatever. The whole stadium can see the signs, and they're probably not that hard to decode if that's all you're watching. When you signal in plays, the offense has the advantage because they can push the tempo and prevent the defense from subbing, so it's a risk and reward thing. If you don't want your signs stolen, just don't use signs...
Still, it's kind of whiny to make that illegal since you get an advantage from signalling plays in on offense anyway. From what I understand the issue isn't the sign stealing itself, which is generally legal, but that a staffer went to other games and probably recorded the signs to use for their own games. Sounds a bit vague but not even sure the whole "staffer going to games" part is that big an issue; there was more said about using "illegal technology" to steal the signs, which to me sounds like he was probably filming it.

We should have corrected such during the game.I remember when Middle TN St. stole our defensive signals during the game and ate our lunch. Good times.
