Thought this was a good way to put how we often feel, and he even mentions us:

"I like the mindset of a place like Oklahoma State. I think it's the same mindset you have to have if you're at Michigan State or Georgia Tech or Auburn, the underdog guys. You're not the brand name. You're not always on the tip of everybody's tongue. Nothing's handed to you because you're not the flagship or whatever you want to call it.

"It's not easy and never has been easy. But I can tell you this, when you finally have some success, when you win those battles and look into the eyes of the folks who have stuck with it through some really bad times -- man, that's a feeling like nothing else."

That's pretty spot on. Feels so good to win as the underdog and beat everyone's expectations. And, most years, OK St. and the group he mentioned is a good group to be in.

Do you agree?

Link to the article (not really a great read other than that)

I agree. One thing my UGAg girlfriend has noticed about Tech fans is we aren't as angry as UGAg fans. They get mad because they think they are Alabama or Ohio State and don't understand how everyone isn't a UGAg fan. I get asked because I am a sidewalk fan "why are you a Tech fan?" fairly often. I just hate UGAg and the whole culture surrounding that cesspool. Always have. I prefer being the underdog and the satisfaction of beating those mutts. GT, if you go by historical rankings of the last 50 years, should NEVER beat UGAg. It is so sweet to see them suffer 2/3 (dammit, should have been 3IAR again.)

Should have been 4IAR... '13 we were up by 20 and looking for more... I guess that's where the talent differential comes in to play.
Dammit, you are correct. Not only looking for more, allowed UGAg to score before half and they got the ball back first in the third

Rewatched the 1st half the other day. We were up 20-0 and had them pinned back on a 2nd and 14. Played about 15 yards off their guy and gave up a 1st (and later a TD). We were rolling their defense and a stop there would give us a good chance to go into half up 23 or 27. Instead we give up the mo and only up 13. Brutal loss, but damn if that wasn't the most beautiful start I've seen to a Tech game.

That question, "why are you a Tech fan?" is so obnoxious when it doesn't come from a Tech fan. And then, when in the course of answering, I elaborate upon my very real, very deep hatred of Georgia, they look at me like I'm nuts.

I hate to be that guy, but Georgia Tech is really the team that isn't like the others, in terms of fan support, as this map shows.
I think it puts us at the top of that group, in which Auburn still doesn't belong. Yes, they're Alabama's "little brother" but relative to the others he mentioned, they're not a "little" anything.

edit: and for the record, those allegiance maps are almost always flawed to death and poor representations of actual fan support.

I don't think he was saying we're perennially every bit as good or as talented as OK St., Michigan St., or Auburn but those 3 are are still the underdogs in their states to Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama and yet still find success. Believe it or not, we too succeed from time to time.

That map doesnt even have Clemson on it. Not very credible.
I concur... There is something very flawed when you just won a national championship, competed for the one before, and you have no representation on the map.

edit: Effectively no representation.
