Mike Smith and CPJ buddies

I was reading on Roddy White on AJC and ran into this bit:

Defensive tackle Vance Walker, a seventh-round pick from Georgia Tech, has impressed coach Mike Smith.
“When we did our due diligence, we thought that Vance was a guy to play in the league,” Smith said. “Up until this point, he’s done well.”
Smith and Tech coach Paul Johnson are buddies, and Johnson likely gave Walker a good reference.

PJ went to play golf in Scotland with Smith and the Falcons GM this summer.

I read somewhere that PJ was at one point going to ask Smith to be his DC (not at Tech) before he got an NFL job.

Yes - Smith was going to be PJ's DC at Navy but decided to stay in the NFL a year longer.
