I will try to do more digging during the week...however we must not mistake this Miss. St. team for last years.

Dan Mullen (Urban Meyer protege) is starting to have this offense click. They actually moved the ball against LSU last week and outgained them by 100+ yards. The 4-0 turnover margin and some iffy play at 1st and goal inside the 5 wth the clock winding down killed them.

Plus...as all of us know...our team has two faces. One is unstoppable and one is very pedestrian...which scares me going away for a night game the week before a matchup at FSU and then VT.

We are also banged up...most of the offense has battle scars (and I do mean most)...and the secondary is still a bit banged up.

I will see if I change my tune later in the week....but I am concerned about this one. We need to hope they have a huge emotional letdown after LSU ripped their heart out. Too bad it is not a noon game.

We need killer instinct on Saturday. Last year's team had it. We beat them 38-7 last year and need to punish them for their comeuppance. I hope we continue our back to the basics practice regimen this week and put this game away by halftime.

I really think the game will go well, because i don't think they have an answer for a strong running game. Auburn ran for 390 yards against them and put up 49 points!!! That wildcat offense is the closest thing to us that they'll see all year.

Their last two games Miss. St. has shut down the run.

Vandy had 33 yards on 29 carries and LSU had 30 yards on 31 carries. :wow:

Don't forget that Mullen has a little more insight into CPJ's offense than most coaches. He and Meyer used to consult CPJ a lot when they were at Utah creating their own version of the option spead.

Have their defensive players practiced against the TO in the off season like most teams we play this year in the ACC? If not, I think we have a major advantage in that area. It would be the first team we face that didn't spend more than 1 week preparing for us.

Jax State (much of the end of their offseason)
Clemson (a few weeks in their offseason + week before us)
Miami (a few weeks in their offseason and more than a week before us)
UNC (a few weeks in their offseason + week before us)

Last year before us they gave up the following:
LaTech 82 on 33
SE LA 33 on 27
Auburn 161 on 45

Auburn is better at running their offense this year than they were last year. So are we.

Auburn put up 390 this year.

Bulldawgs West are a different team under Mullen. I'm concerned. Not worried, concerned. Say what you will but they did do good against LSU and we'll be over there in their yard. I don't think it's going to be a cakewalk but I'm confident CPJ is already on the job. Man was kind of fired up Saturday, wasn't he?

I think that we can go anywhere from making MSU an embarrassment to a narrow loss, but hopefully it will be a nice schellacking and we have all of our 3rd stringers in after the 3rd quarter.

I knew Mullins would be a great coach, but I didn't think he could get them going this soon. At least, I hoped not.

I haven't watched MSU play, but I assume that they're running something similar to the Meyer spread. This could be bad if they're clicking so soon.

heck...we only ran the triple option maybe 10-15 times Saturday...I have not watched the game on replay yet.

We ran the midline about as many times, if not more.

We ran a lot of just toss sweep out of essentially what is an I-formation...we just get to it by using motion from one of the AB's.

We ran draw plays as well...have not seen that before.

Of course, we threw 11 times...and attempted to a few more than that.

...and my favorite play...kneeing the ball several times!!!

I didn't think we even ran the triple option play that many times. I was thinking maybe 5-6 times.
