Modern Era: Top Ten Georgia Tech QB Record VS UGA

Sorry but Justin Thomas is not better than Shawn Jones or Joe Hamilton. Are you aware that Joe Hamilton won the Davey O’Brien award and was the runner up in the 1999 Heisman?

I agree, but I would also say that in the context of the offense being run that Thomas was as good as anyone - watching him run the option was as much fun as anything I've ever seen. Same with Hamilton and Godsey.

Actually it's called "Playing in those games or on Staff as a Student Assistant" and still able to remember the anomaly of one QB playing a whole game under Carson:lol:

That was the agreed to norm for that game in that era. The 1971 Thanksgiving Night Robbery by the SECheats Game was the only one I remember UGag playing in white jerseys against us.
Were you on the team the year of the “night the chain broke”?

Was on varsity 1969-1971..... was the chain break '67?

For those who came in late, '68 was most definitely not dependent on a ref call/no call/equipment malfunction..... they were that good.

I do think it was 1967. If I recall correctly, UGA went for a 4th down, and it appeared short. But when they stretched the chain, it broke. They “repaired” it and seemingly took up a link or two and voila…they got the mark by about an inch

Jack Williams is actually 2-0 vs UGag.... he was the starting QB over Eddie McAshan in the 1970 17-7 GT win between the damned weeds.... and Jack played the whole game.

Wysong's TD catch vs UGag in 1970 shown below was from #12.

Williams also was the QB the whole game vs Texas Tech in the 1970 17-9 Sun Bowl win.

McAshan only played vs UGag in the 1971 game - 1972 was the Ticket Fiasco that led to Jim Stevens playing vs UGag & Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl. Bowl-wise, he played in the 1971 Ole Miss Peach Bowl Disaster.

Just to pick at nits on a slow Tuesday night.....

Thank you! I did not know that I will fix the rankings!

Based on four factors — preseason poll, number of voters, number of teams ranked, and final poll coming after bowl games — 1968 could be considered the start of the 'modern' era

1. Justin Thomas (2014 - 2016) 2-1 vs UGA , 2-0 Bowl Record, 2014 Orange Bowl MVP,
2. John Dewberry (1983-1985) 2-1 vs UGA, 1-0 Bowl Record
3. Jack Williams (1969) 1-0 vs UGA
4. Shawn Jones (1989-1992) 2-2 vs UGA, 1990 National Title & ACC Champions, 1991 Florida Citrus Bowl MVP, 2-0 Bowl Record
5. Joe Hamilton (1996-1999) 2-2 Against UGA, 2-1 Bowl Record, 2Gator Bowl MVP (1999, 2000) Carquest Bowl MVP (1997)
6. Eddie McAshan (1970-1972) 1-1 vs UGA, 1-1 Bowl Record
7. George Godsey (2000-2001)1-1 vs UGA, 1-1 Bowl Record, 2001 Seattle Bowl MVP

JT and Joe have the same # of wins versus the dwags.

But Joe and Shawn started 4 games vs the dwags whereas JT only started 3. Its literally retarded to rank them by winning percentage when they didn't play the same number of games.
JT has 1 loss vs the Dawgs, Joe lost 2 times....

I just rewatched highlights of that 2009 Tech-Ugag game. JfN was driving to win that game. The 4th down dropped pass was so inexplicable.

Wow, that’s unrecognizable as Sanford & Son stadium to me. I guess that’s the end zone opposite the railroad tracks?

Geez, I guess things never change.

Yep, that was the trestle or east end zone.

The west end zone hadn't been permanently enclosed then, either...... much like our old (pre-Braineless renovation) north stands, but much larger.

As much as I love me some Justin Thomas. Joe Hamilton was a better football player. You can see it in their names “magic Joe Hamilton”. And “smooth”. If you ever built a qb with Thomas speed and Hamiltons hips, nobody would ever tackle that guy.

The team took that game off. It’s usually on the coach when that happens but I’ll cut CPJ some slack on that one, he was ready to kick the ball off at 7am. I also think there were some ncaa people running around about the same time.

I was at the 1970 game … great pass from Williams to Wysong. UGA tried some dumb trick play deep in their territory and turned the ball over and that was pretty much the ball game. In 8 quarters of football played in 69 & 70 UGA scored a total of 7 points. That defense was pretty darn stout led by Rock Perdoni and Smylie Gebhart.
