Excerpts:

Navy's Paul Johnson will interview Wednesday in Atlanta for Georgia Tech's head football coaching vacancy, a person familiar with the process told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Johnson, 50, has emerged as one of two leading candidates to replace Chan Gailey, who was fired in November after six seasons.
Other candidates for the Georgia Tech job are apparently out of the mix. The AJC reported Wednesday that Will Muschamp, the defensive coordinator at Auburn, has been told that he is no longer a candidate. Other candidates who interviewed, including Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and Georgia Southern head coach Chris Hatcher, have not been asked back for a second interview.

If Georgia Tech does not hire Johnson, it is expected that defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta, who is serving as interim head coach, will become the leading candidate.

Tenuta? You have got to be kidding me. Exactly which criteria of what we are looking for does he fit?

nobody knows anything, especially the AJC. Just give it a while and don't believe anything that is reported.

it would be a default pick...no other options left.

Iv'e said that all along, like the Univ. of Miami coaching search last year.

We CAN and should slow this process down though, we still might can get that young innovative offensive mind that Clough said he wants. Best thing. IMHO.

Tech and Ga Southern fan here. Been around Johnson and Hatcher while they were here at GSU.

Right now Johnson's head and shoulders above Hatcher. As a Tech fan who knows them both it really needs to be Johnson period.

BS! I refuse to beleive that we went through all this trouble and money to fire Gailey to take the default hire. No way Tenuta gets it, hard to imagine him being our "Mark Richt" in shining armor and the one to take us to the promised land.
No media relations and a quiet guy...I just don't see him going out there and promoting GT football any better than Gailey did.

The only way we get our Richt in shining armour is to hire Rick Neuheisel, I don't think the board has the ..... to do it.

I too am a GSU and GT fan, and I completely agree with EagleJacket. My stepson played for PJ and has two NC rings to show for it. I know Hatcher and have spent some time around him. Both are great coaches, but if I had to have one guy on my sideline that would make the difference in winning and losing, it would be PJ.

I am new at this and this is the first time I have posted. I agree with MaconGTFan I like Tenuta but if we blew 4 million just to get him this AD has to go

He fits every criteria Muschamp did, plus he knows our players and knows what it takes to succeed at Tech.

I don't know what you mean "he knows how to succeed at Tech."

?

JT was the best on the old staff, but we never stopped ugag, did OK vs AU, but not any other really good teams.

Did you not see VT, BC, UVa, ugag against us? How is that success?

Oh, how we forget, we had to play GD defense the whole game

We most definitely stopped UGAG last year, and the year before that. It was a completely inept offense that lost us both those games. And if numbers vs UGA is your benchmark, Ole Muschamp did worse than Tenuta did.

Heh, I'd forgotten we've swept Auburn this century. Was Muschamp the DC in either of those games? If so he was definitely outcoached by Tenuta.

By 'success at Tech' I was referring to understanding the academic and other constraints at our fine institution, constraints that don't exist at Auburn or LSU.

Muschamp has only been at Auburn as DC the past 2 years. Before that, he followed Saban to the Dolphins from LSU.

This year was the first time since 2003 that UGA scored more than 20 points against us. It's not the defense's fault that we didn't win a single game in the times that we allowed 19, 14, and 15 (with only one offensive TD allowed by our defense) points.
