I don't know that it is good for our content... if he's not 100% ours.

However, I doubt we were able to throw any money at him to keep him with our financial situation this year so this might be the best way to get him off the payroll but still have him working on our brand.

It’s a whole lot better to let a guy go & be happy, then to prevent a guy from going where he’s forced to stay and is now disgruntled. Tech might have blessed it & said they owe us one
(Can’t prevent it in a legal sense, but in situations like this, the perspective new employer may have a policy in place of needing blessing from current employer before they interview)
