Our offense, for the most part, consists of a handful of plays.

I'm curious which ones are the most effective and net the most yardage.

-It seems the toss sweep is incredibly dependable when we need 3 yards.
-Nesbitt can usually get 5 yards on the midline option
-The draw play handoff to Dwyer is looking good
-My favorite play is the FB option, which always gets pitched to Dwyer and seems to run for big yardage

What plays stick out to you guys as being the most effective?

How about the WR end-around? It was nearly a disastrous high pitch, but it worked to perfection with Mr. Hill. Obviously not a play that can be used very often.

Quick pass to Thomas was gold for 5+ tonight. Everytime there was man coverage and a big gap, the first down was his to take

ummm, the eleventy-billion-yard-Hail-Mary passes to Thomas and Hill!

those were huge!

++ Had he not lost his footing the first time we ran that play, I think he'd still be running.

did we run the counter or FB option to dwyer at all? don't remember it if we did.

I'm pretty sure we never broke that one out. I did wonder why we didn't run any of the plays to get JD on the perimeter.

I think it has to do with the mastery of playcalling in this offense. He isn't over there calling plays because it's a lucky play or a play that works alot. Every playcall is designed to exploit something they are seeing on defense. What he sees or why he calls the plays he does...I have no clue...but thankful they work.

The draw play to JD worked to perfection too. I remember it was a third and long situation, Nesbitt breaks back to pass and the whole D scatters, leaving acreage of open green space to run. I love that play - especially if we can pass more effectively - defenses will HAVE to respect the chance of the pass.

I have completely given up trying to predict what our offense will do on a given play.

And this is one of the many reasons our offense is so successful. The most effective play is not one single play. Each play has been effective at one time or another. It's the MIX of plays that makes our offense so unpredictable and hard to defend.

I think we used it once, and it got maybe 2 yards. It's usually much more effective.

Coach PJ usually finds a certain few plays each game that he uses with success until the D proves that they are able to stop it. This game, it was the sideways pass to Bay Bay. Last week, I remember him calling the draw play and the JD option.

It sure does make it exciting each week to see how we are going to befuddle opposing defenses!:fingersx:

i think cpj finds areas of weakness and attacks these weaknesses/players.

i'm not too concerned with fsu this wknd but am looking forward to the VT game. i guess i shouldn't look ahead... but fsu, besides the byu game, hasn't shown any reason to respect them.

even lee corso has called them a "regular football team"

I wonder if PJ is purposely limiting JD's yards so he will come back next year. (TIC...but seriously)

Its been nailed, this thread can end. BayBay was incredibly impressive on the quick out. That will work agtianst anybody. I find myself calling for the toss sweep, I love it. Roddy does it best. I also love to see Josh keep it and drive for five when they give him the opening. It was a beautiful thing Saturday night.

Most happy for Bay bay because feel bad for him being the oddball in this run offense, but Saturday he came out and showed that if you get him the ball short or deep he will get it done.

The draw against UNC was really effective. I think we only ran it once this past Saturday.

With all the passing we showed last weekend, and a bunch of fast defenders that could over-pursue this weekend, I wonder if we'll see the draw and other such plays more this weekend?

My favorite play, we didn't even run against MSU is the counter-option run. The A-back goes in motion then we snap just as his motion is starting, he reverses field, and we run to that side of the field. Pretty looking play in my opinion, and a lot of the LB's/S's follow the motion back so have to quickly try to reverse direction giving us a couple extra yards. :)
