Ms. Moore\'s words 2 years ago

"The staff in the Hearn Academic Center is delighted with the results of this year's academic performance," said Dr. Carole Moore, director of academic services for the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. "Strategies that were implemented over three years ago are beginning to produce results. In the first weeks of the students' arrival, extended orientation occurs that includes study skills enhancement, test taking, class preparation techniques, and other related topics. From the start, the academic advisors encourage our students to use all available resources. We have attempted to create a supportive environment in the Academic Center - one that allows student-athletes to reach their full intellectual potential.

"We have also begun to see a shift in some of the student-athletes' attitudes about the importance of graduating and establishing careers. More and more of them are willing to put in extra effort to improve their in-class performance. It has been wonderful to see so many of them rewarded for their efforts."

Re: Ms. Moore\'s words 2 years ago

I'm LOL recalling this quote! ALL of this was being done when CM followed me at the AA. In addition, we utilized support personnel throughout campus--counselling center, resource person for students with learning disabilities, departmental tutoring, Student Health Center--even a reading specialist from Georgia State Univ./public schools specialist. Amazing how when all's OK, it's the academic support that claims credit but when it turns sour, it's totally the SA's burden. Human nature, I guess...

Poor Dr. Moore. I think she bears a ton of responsibilty in the fiasco and should resign. Don't think she will but at least Clough should step in and relieve her of her responsibilities, possibly reassign her.
