<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">"The staff in the Hearn Academic Center is delighted with the results of this year's academic performance," said Dr. Carole Moore, director of academic services for the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. "Strategies that were implemented over three years ago are beginning to produce results. In the first weeks of the students' arrival, extended orientation occurs that includes study skills enhancement, test taking, class preparation techniques, and other related topics. From the start, the academic advisors encourage our students to use all available resources. We have attempted to create a supportive environment in the Academic Center - one that allows student-athletes to reach their full intellectual potential.
"We have also begun to see a shift in some of the student-athletes' attitudes about the importance of graduating and establishing careers. More and more of them are willing to put in extra effort to improve their in-class performance. It has been wonderful to see so many of them rewarded for their efforts."
