Am I the only one that thinks that MSU's 'amazing run defense' is even more overhyped than UNC's was?

I mean who has MSU played? They played LSU and held them to 30 yards running...whooooo amazing.

Then again, LSU's offense is pretty shi**y so far this year so I'm not sold.

MSU gets BLASTED by the only other good team they play in Auburn.

I think we will win this game, and if all MSU has to hang their hats on is that they have a good defense and played close against LSU, then I get the feeling we're going to make LSU look pretty bad when we pound it down MSU's throat.
 
them's fightin words... remember, we lost to LSU last year. LSU was wholly dominant in every aspect and it was in no way due to our own flaws w/ special teams and execution. LSU is a good team and will always be a good team, and if you almost beat a good team, heck thats just as good as beating them (ask any UGA fan still upset about 2008).

I'm kidding of course. I won't say we're gonna ram it down their throats, I'm just gonna let the team show what they can do. MSU can get all hyped, but the fact is that it comes down to how you play, not how you think you could play if everyone were to do their job flawlessly...

oh! and they're running a cousin of CPJ's offense. Urban Meyer (when he was at Utah) used to call CPJ for pointers on how to run the option... Urban Meyer then taught his "perfect" offense to his OC @ Florida, Dan Mullen, who is now the head coach @ MSU... bottom line?

Dan Mullen learned his offense in part due to Paul Johnson...
 
What are their D-linemen looking like? Size, weight, prospects for NFL, etc.?
 
Holding LSU to 30 yards on the ground isn't exactly something I'd dismiss as unimpressive. That's very impressive and my guess is PJ will open up the game passing in the flats to Hill and Bebe. Hoping we get a couple of first downs after that, then triple option them in the keester.

They only have one 300+ pound defensive lineman starting unlike Carolina or Clemson. However, I don't know how much that means because most of Miami's D-lineman were under 300 lbs.
 
LSU's offense ranks 105 in total yards per game. That is against Vandy, Lousiana-Lafayette, Washington and Miss State. I believe we will move the ball as good as or better than our average this season. Plus, I beleive we will play great defense again this week.
 
What kind of defense does MSU run this year? I haven’t watched any of their games. Last year, after watching the MSU-Auburn game it looked like our offense matched up well. MSU had defensive talent, but they completely swarmed the ball. Every tackle seemed to have at least 3 defenders on the ball. They tried the same thing against us and ended up gang tackling the wrong guy.

No point in ripping this defense. They've showed they can stop a traditional running attack pretty damn well. Whether or not that translates in to stopping an option game, we'll have to wait and see but there's no point in getting all high and mighty about it.

CPJ had a nice quote in the radio show about being able to stuff the I by putting 8 in the box, but you can put 9 in the box against us and if the offense executes you can't stop it because we don't have to block all of you.

This is the same point I was gonna make. MSU might play our option game well, or they might not. But success against a "regular" running game doesn't give any information about how they well they'll play our offense.
 
On FromTheRumbleSeat, they interviewed the blogger for MSU and he mentioned their secondary as being the weak spot on their D-Line. Hopefully we can burn them early and often with some passes to loosen up the run game.

No wonder its a weak spot.. those guys are too small to play D line... they should make some adjustments and get their @#&$ mind rite
 
Traditionally MSU has a good secondary but weaker front 7. However, their star safety Derek Pegues graduated last year. I can see Hill and Thomas burning these 5'11" safeties they have. Let's just hope that our 6'4" receivers time their jumps correctly.

Are you implying their defense is good because of what our defense did last year? I was never trying to imply our defense was good.

I was merely stating that I think MSU's rushing defense is overrated because of holding a terrible LSU offense to 30 yards rushing. I don't see the correlation to stating what LSU did against us last year....

I tried to explain it the first time! Teams don't change, and you can effectively compare how you will do by comparing how other teams did against a common opponent.

Take UGA vs LSU last year... UGA kicked LSU's ass, we beat UGA, therefore we should beat..... oh...
 
True or false: Before the season started we all saw the Mississippi State game as an absolute "W".

Why all the angst now? Yes, they were impressive against LSU, but that was probably their statement game for this year. Having played LSU last weekend, they will have had no extra time to focus on or prepare for us. I totally discount Mullen's spread option experience as being helpful in devising a defense for our offense. I will admit that the team is more upbeat now that Croom has left, but talent-wise they are about the same and in the throes of learning a completely new system. Will they play hard? Definitely. Our defense should control their offense adequately, and if we play solidly on offense we should limit their possessions and win handily.

But...but....LSU runs a pro set...and Richt runs a pro set...so they should have no trouble stopping LSU.:rolleyes:
