MSU Defense

I will admit that the team is more upbeat now that Croom has left, but talent-wise they are about the same

Methinks you underestimate the talent level that was and is at MSU. They aren't bad players, they had bad coaches.

They were hyping this defense last year, and we were running at will on them with our back-up true freshman quarterback. I'll believe it when I see it, and then we can talk about how good they are.

When we played MSU last year we had just come back from playing @BC and @VT, unarguably the best 2 defenses in the ACC and Top 15 nationally. It was naturally going to be easier and we just never let off the gas last year. I think the same will happen this year offensively. We just played 3 of the top 4 defenses in the conference. MSU will NOT have the same talent we just faced in our last 3 games.

What worries me about MSU is our defense. It is tough to stop an option team when you can't get any push from the D-line (we should know). If we are going to keep them under 20 points, the DT's and Mr. Gladiator are going to have to play better than they have. Anthony Dixon will gash us to death up the middle (JD style) if not.

I'm not worried about their defense, I'm worried about their offense, and turnovers. They play ball control, so do we, so the game is going to be very short in terms of total possessions for each team. If they out-clock-manage us, and we get one or two unlucky turnovers, there won't be time to overcome them. It's a recipe for an upset.

That's my only fear. If we avoid that, then we should win fine.

One thing I look at when we go up against a defense is how good of run stoppers their secondary is. For example, LSU has Chad Jones - one of the best run stopping safeties in college football. UNC lost their top safety to graduation.

MSU lost both of their safeties, and one of them (Pegues (sp?)) was really good. I think the pitch works wonders on that defense.

Speaking of run stoppers, here is a peek at MSU's big boys up front.

MSU could not stop Auburn's option

I was at the MSU-Auburn game this year. The MSU defense was okay against regular handoffs up the middle. However, they were confused by the misdirection that Auburn used.

In particular, MSU had no answer for the option plays that Auburn ran. Auburn (out of the shotgun) ran a option pitch around the end. It went for big yards every time they ran it. It fondly reminded me of last year's Tech-MSU game.

Something tells me you are Damarius. You joined right after he was banned and one of your first posts was about bringing back Damarius and/or Kyle. Also, you post Damariuslike stuff such as this.

Damarius and Kyle were both banned?

and NO ONE would care

What did they do to get banned? Not sticking up for them -- I personally could care less, but once people start getting banned it sets a bad precedent. In fact, there are others I would rather see banned then either of them.

I would wager it was for some particular act that goes against the rules of the forum (overly inappropriate posts or pictures) rather for them being duches.

If you were wondering why there have been more intelligent conversation lately, I am assuming that's why.
