MTSU vs Army

Probably a tough game for MTSU who didn’t even know they were playing Army until a few weeks ago

Army grinding away. Unless Groh starts (very slowly) calling the defense, Army is going to win.

Also, Monkin has some nice wrinkles. Blocking schemes look good and no belly flopping.

That was some ööööty clock management at the end of the half.

WTF is the MTSU coaching staff doing? Let the clock run out at the end of half with 2 timeouts left and inside the 10-yardline. Announcers didnt even mention it either (announcers are god awful; so wouldnt expect much more) but the incompetance of their coaching staff should be a fireable offense

Also uses a TE and will mix in some looks from the gun; nice evolution of the base offense. I hope he gets a look at a P5 at some point.

No way. Unless it is a school that doesn’t want to ever leave the option. And in that case, he is probably better off at Army.

Not enough time to prepare
Assignment football
Quarterback duck

I’m so glad I dont have to listen to the same boring narrative each and every GT game from now on.
'Boring narratives' are the way sportscasters work. We definitely heard the same thing game-after-game last season, too. And we'll keep hearing about Geoff Collins' recruiting and social media and fashion sense, this season.

Vandy, or NW, or Maryland, or Kansas could do a lot worse. Vandy specifically, which has no brand other than SEC doormat with no fans, is the most logical option. Of course, the SEC would ;probably kick them out so their schools wouldnt have to face it

That is kind of the point, except only Vandy maybe on that list would do it. But Vandy isn’t a step up from Army. You would have better recruiting, but you would lose more.

GT took a big swing for the fences. We got three trips to the acccg, which was better than we were doing before, but we couldn’t get over the hump and compete consistently at the next level.

Boosters at Md, NW, and even Kansas aren’t going to look at those results knowing they would need a complete rebuild to get to the next level.

Those schools have football boosters? NW is an outlier, but the rest of them wouldnt mind a PJ style run. The other school that could consider it at some point is Arkansas.

NW has a good coach and occasionally competes at a high level. A CPJ system wouldn’t change things for them, plus they would have to sell the option.

MD has Under Armor money and would rather grab a traditional coach. They don’t think they have to get an option coach to compete (although they should). They could have gotten CPJ while he was at Navy.

KS seems to think Mangino’s grow on trees. Big, strong, heavy duty trees.

AR has the money to take other P5 coaches. Unless a high school coach starts killing it there running the option, they will stay the course.

We really were lightening in a bottle for CPJ. We had enough positives to let him hit some highs and complete at an OB level. But he couldn’t ever put a solid series of seasons together. 2015 just killed us. A 9 win 2015 would have been huge. (edit: or 3iar against uga).

But, iiwii. P5 schools are going to look at us and ask if they can grab something big before the slow decline gets them. Schools within strike distance would probably rather take a chance on a Cutcliff.

The narrative last year was “rebuild”. Paul Johnson had the same narrative for a decade straight. Hell, even he grew tired of it.
