Muschamp

Just more reason to hire him!!

Remember that being a great coordinator has little to do with being a great head coach. They are completely different roles....they no longer have time to run the offense/defense...instead have to be managers of other men/coaches, parents, boys, media, etc.

...particularly former def. coordinators it seems...fwiw.

If we are going to hire a DC for head coach it better be Tenuta...Why the love affair with Muschamp from some? He is a dog!!! Talk about a divided house! That would be a huge mistake, im willing to predict Drad wont make. There are way too many other qualified candidates to hire this guy...

But, I agree with what you are saying, we shouldn't go after a DC...Very rarely works...

Because Muschamp's Defense is better than Tenuta's is. On top of that, he is facing SEC offenses, which are not even in the same league as ACC offenses (the A stands for anemic), which makes his higher rankings/statistics that much more impressive.

This is no slight against Tenuta who is an excellent DC, but in all honesty Muschamp is better, which is supported by fact; he is also younger more energetic. Have you ever seen Tenuta on the sidelines?

That is of course all in your opinion, and I never see the rave reviews on Muschamp like we do on Tenuta from the national media when we play. Of course there are some here that obviously have fell in love with the ex-dog...Not going to happen though!

During Muschamp’s tenure at Auburn, 20 of 25 opponents have been held to 20 points or fewer.

But two of those five games of 20+ points were against UGA --45 and 37 points respectively. Seems a bit odd that his touted defense would struggle against his alma-mater. :hsugh::ugh::rolleyes:

How can you look at those rankings and think Tenuta is better? Again this is all relative since Tenuta is better than about 95% of the rest of Div-1 FBS DCs.

Who gives a **** if he's a Dawg or not? If he was so in love with that sh!thole he would be coaching there. But he isn't and I need not bring up the fact that some of the most prestigious Programs best coaches graduated from rival programs?

I care, and ex-players like Nate and John do..I know a lot of other GT fan's that do too. I guarantee you there would be division from the get go with our fanbase.

We don't need to worry anyway, because it is not going to happen.

Muschamp is also use to working at football factory's that consistently give him NFL caliber players to work with...just saying I think its real hard to argue that he does more with the talent he has to work with than Tenuta does.

Exactly.

Where is he coaching? If he was rival-averse he damn sure wouldn't be coaching at AUBURN!

Some UGAggers will tell you that Auburn is a bigger rival than Tech.

Who knows? Maybe he has a case of the ass for the cesspool. If so, then is there a better place for him than Tech?

He's my 2nd choice behind Hatcher, but he's a very close 2nd.

I supported hiring the interim coach when CG was brought on board. Therefore I have no problem in hiring an ex-mutt if he can bring us a program we can be proud of. I do not believe Muschamp will be able to do this plus his antics on the sideline are of great concern. More importantly there are too many Techsters, right or wrong, who oppose hiring a mutt therefore it would not be good for the program at this time.

I can't really argue with that point, but remember talent doesn't equal success; it takes a good coach to turn talent into on field success. You could have a whole team of blue-chip athletes, but could piss it all away with inept coaching.

That's a good point on Coach MacWhorter. He was who I wanted after how well the team played in the Seattle Bowl that year and the players loved him.

There wasn't nearly as much UGA grad concern from what I remember back then.

I wonder how many of these folks were opposed to hiring Mac just because of where he went to school?

Having a UGA grad as the GT head coach is just wrong IMO. I know UGA has hired Auburn grads and vice versa, but that rivalry is similar to GT - Clemson. It's a rivalry but not as much hatred is involved (for instance a Clemson grad would not bother me at all). Our fight song specifically calls out Georgia and says to hell with them. We have a flag on the Wreck that says, "To Hell With Georgia." The week of the Georgia game the Technique runs all anti-UGA articles. Many GT fans don't even wear red clothing.

If DRad chooses Muschamp, I will expect him to yell "To Hell With Georgia!" as loud as he can and lead our team to victory, and I will support him, but I would prefer to have a head coach who went anywhere other than UGA.

I remember hearing about Woody Hayes driving back from a recruiting trip to Michigan and running out of gas near the state line. He opted to push his car out of Michigan rather than buy their gas. We don't need to be that ridiculous with our rivalry, but at the very least we should avoid hiring a Dawg as head coach.

I do not see how Muschamp is significantly better than Tenuta.

With Tenuta, we get to keep our recruits and the bulk of our coaching staff, including Giff Smith.

I am not sold on Muschamp's credentials and personality being right for Tech. But, hiring a UGA grad to coach is not a bad idea. When he recruits and tells parents the superior value of a Tech degree to a UGA diploma and warns them of the unbridled debauchery their boys will be a part of in that den of iniquity in Athens - he will speak as one with authority! ;)

Auburn certainly has talent but they aren't a true football factory that rakes in top 10 recruiting classes every year. They play a lot of team that on paper should have equal or better talent than they do. On paper they would probably be 6th in the SEC in terms of 'talent'.

Muschamp is not my favorite. If we are gonna hire a defensive coordinator then I would prefer to give Tenuta a chance. That being said his performance has been very good and he is certainly not overwhelming the SEC with talent.

Exactly. The point is not how good he is, but how good he is with the talent he has. Tech has some defensive talent but Auburn has more and LSU has a lot more.

As for SEC-caliber offenses, the last six good SEC teams Tenuta faced he gave up 3, 19, 14, 14, 15 and 31 points. And in the last game the D played great for three quarters but got worn out b/c we lost the turnover battle.
