My one hope for next year....

Yeah, Tyler Evans is not the problem with our punt return unit. His backup, now that's a different story.

This was the first year in a long time that I wasn't begging "Just catch it".
Good hands first. Anything after that is gravy.

Our punters have been off the charts lately.

When is the last time we were struggling to score and a PR gave us a short field? ]

Why did our PR fair catch so many punts last year?

The color of the PR doesn't matter. Our guy wasn't a threat to do anything. Let's see what the new coach does there. I don't think we see the same guy there again. Navy returned a punt this year.
I don't know if Evans wasn't a threat or that we didn't try to return punts. I mean, it's pretty much impossible to do with no deep blockers to give you a chance to get started.

I still beg 'just catch it,' and will continue to beg 'just catch it' as long as we lose 1 game per year because we can't catch it.

Who remembers Miami a few years ago, where we muffed like 3 in a row, and Chan got so pissed he just pulled the returner off the field? Lol. I'd have done the same thing.

I don't care how fast you say his 40 is...his "on field" speed is slower. Watching him try to get around the corner was entertaining at best...maybe it is blocking but I just don't see any real explosive speed in the guy.

I can't imagine that being the fastest white guy at a North Cobb high school carries much weight in college football. I think it's the whole 'getting around the corner' thing that kicks his ass. It wasn't long ago the Kelly Rhino was our punt returner from a North Metro HS. His first step after the catch was straight up the damn middle. He may not have been a threat to break one, but he held the return yardage record in the ACC for a while and you always knew you'd end up in great field position. I'd settle for Evans being the reincarnation of KR.

I've known a good number of people with "4.5" 40s. There's a good bit of bias that goes into just about every 40 time.

Still, I'm happy with Evans returning punts. Punt returns for TDs have decided far fewer games than muffed punts. Out of the 119 D-1A teams out there, I doubt more than 10 of them returned a punt for a TD this year. Evans catches every ball and as far as I'm concerned, leading the ACC in return yards is just gravy.

That blocked punt that won us the Clemson game was also very nice.

Based on this it looks like there were 59 or so Punt returns for TD's. Kansas State had five alone! However, they didn't even make a bowl game (5-7). If you notice, the top 5 teams for punt returns had a combined record of 20-42 with only one team, Troy, being bowl eligible at 8-4. Ohio state ranked 58th with 1 TD, and LSU ranked 107 0 td's.

42 Teams Returned punts for TD's this season.

its really hard to rush against 9 players breathing down your neck. its not tylers fault for "not getting around the corner". it all depends on the type of coverage you get. like i said he has NEVER muffed a punt and is still getting a decent return. so i think PJ will be happy with him for a while. hes getting the job done.

p.s. i like the points pointed out by the previous post
