My predictions for '09 - (I know most of you could care less!)

We have a lot to deal with this year coming out of the gate. Lack of depth and experience on defense; no backup quarterback who has had any meaningful game experience; defenses on our schedule that will be more prepared for us and more motivated to play us this year. Our schedule is tougher. 4 road games in October. I agree that the Clemson game is a HUGE game for this team. Good thing it will be here in 17 days.

If we lose to Clemson I think it will quickly become a very long season....

Any predictions are just a crap shoot, but I don't see us having a complete breakdown. We could have fallen apart after UV last year but we bounced back nicely. There is more maturity and experience this year, and I just can't see CPJ letting emotions get in the way of a good season.

What exactly qualifies as experience on defense for you? The only players on defense who might start yet not have experience are Terrant and Barnes. Everyone else has had some sort of playing time. While I can see what you mean with the other defensive linemen, as far as I know all our remaining defense had a lot of playing time last year.

I also am curious why defenses would be more motivated to play us. I can understand the prepared part, but I just don't get the other part.

If you don't understand why the UGA defense won't be more motivated to stop us than last year, or Miami, or Mississippi St, or even Clemson or FSU, then I can't explain it to you.

The DL does scare me a bit. BUT, if we get good LB play, then some of the shortcomings of the DL casn be overcome until they gain experience. I have a feeling we are going to have a STOUT defense this year.

Mover2 - Excellent predictions, sir. I can't stand those lame predictions sportswriters put out with every game being a 21-17 "squeaker".

In the real world there are lots of blowouts. We finished 9-4 last year, blowing out 4 teams (Jax St, MSU, Duke and Miami) and getting blown out twice (UNC, LSU).

With a fully functioning offense, we are going to see some ridiculously high scores. We have depth now, and if we pull Josh Nesbitt out for the 2nd half, Tevin could put another 3 or 4 TDs on the board. I'm confident that we'll average around 35 ppg.

I was extremely positive about my outlook. But now I am not feeling as good about it. I am thinking we turn out 8-4 or 9-3. I know that we CAN win every game, so I guess our record will be determined by turnovers and injuries. If we can limit both of those, we do really well. But I have to see it to believe it. What I do know is that CPJ will put us in the best position (offensively) to win. My biggest question mark is on the defensive side of things ... no offense to Wommack cuz I think he is a good coach.

Somehow I had a feeling my South Georgia friend would pipe in on this conversation.

You sound like my younger brother, exceot he's a smartarse!!

Hehe... I can only try my friend... FWIW, I agree with your assessment. This is gonna be a special seeason. Good to see you back on here, and looking forward many wonderful conversations on the upcoming season.

Sorry, I just find it harder to believe that something like the yards given up would motivate defenses for the next game with the team for the following season. For the next game of the same season maybe, but it just seems to me that the margin of victory or loss is what is more focus.

Basically we're at a disagreement. IF I'm understanding your reasoning right, you believe FSU's defense would be more motivated to play us next season whether they won that game or not, whereas
I think if they had won they wouldn't think much about the points they gave up in a game from the previous season and since they lost they'd be more motivated as team for that fact alone, with less focus on individual unit performance.

What I'm saying is fairly simple: Last year some publications picked us to finish with between 3 and 5 wins. Nobody thought we had a chance in hell to compete for the ACC or beat Georgia. We were "under the radar" as they say. We were not considered a dominant offense until the Miami game. This year we are ranked #15 out of the gate. Our offense is getting all this positive press constantly. Teams (and/or their coaches, fans, etc) have been talking about shutting down the Georgia Tech offense all offseason, including Va Tech, UGA, FSU, Miami.... This wasn't happening prior to 2008. I NEVER remember this happening. Maybe to Joe Hamilton & co to some extent. I'm not saying that this is a huge factor; I'm saying it is one of many small factors that will make this season difficult.

People on this board routinely cite extra motivation as a reason we will beat UNC. It swings the other way as well.

My Prediction, We do NOT have a single team on this schedule that we can't beat. I don't know about the bowl game but because I don't wanna Jinx us I won't say my prediction.

Thank you sir. I thought that team finished 11-0. Guess I better do my research next time before speaking out of my arse!!!

I stand corrected!!!!!

It 's ok to tell the big brother truth about what happened. Your little brother is a ventrilloquist. :laugher:
