Jsu- should be a gimme game. Our defense alone should win this game. Looks more intersting with perrlioux as there qb now. I say win.@Bc- VERY big game. If we win this it could set the tone for the year. Big question is how far along will the offense be. I think our d wins this game.@vt- i dont see us winning this game. VT is known for a strong d. I dont think the offense is clicking yet. I say loss.msu- thoughest game of the year to predict imo. Msu has a really good d but not a great o. I think we pull this really defense game out. Win.duke- blowout after us coming off a bye week. I say win. i will post more later. Share your thoughts.

Personally, I'm going to save the predictions until I have some idea of what to expect from the offense this season. Would anyone be surprised if we averaged 4-5 turnovers/game between weeks 2-4, when we play 3 straight solid FBS programs with us having very little experience in a new system?? I sure wouldn't after seeing the spring game. I know, I know...there are 100 reasons we looked so bad offensively on 4/19 (we have a bad-ass D-line, Nesbit's injury, injured Olinemen, etc, etc...), but its still unrealistic to expect this transition to not take a while (like at least most of this season). Also, I'd feel better if the problem was only turnovers...but it wasn't. If I'm correct, we didn't get a 1st down in the first 10 possessions. Now I've read many posts about how our defense can keep games close while our offense learns on the job...but if we turn the ball over and can't manage some 1st downs when we do hang on to the ball, then the defense doesn't stand a chance.

Don't get me wrong...I'm looking for great things from this team in the near future, but I'm thinking more along the lines of '09 or '10 instead of 2008.

disclaimer: If this post is somehow incoherent, then please know I am on my 8th G&T of the night.

Ah yes--cold gin time again.

here is the truth according to me:

Jax State--win
Boston College--in Boston-loss
VPI-loss
Miss State--Croom adding athletes each year--loss
Duke--we win, maybe
Gardner-Webb--win
Clempsen--loss, steamrolled, an annihilation
UVA-maybe a win
FSU-loss....old memories begin to haunt Tech Nation
UNC-loss Butch Davis has them playing adequately
Miami--loss, hard to beat even Duke four straight
Georgia--maybe a win--it will be close.

This fall will be a "period of adjustment" all the way around.

FSU-loss....old memories begin to haunt Tech Nation
I wouldn't write this one off. I don't think we have a Bowdown or F$U curse, so much as a Richty-Richt curse. F$U just hasn't been the same team without him as OC.

My take:

Jax State - Win
Boston College - we get a couple extra days to prepare, and BC has to replace a TON of players. Win.
VPI - This will be a tough one for us early in the year. Loss.
Miss State - This should be somewhat of a defensive struggle both ways, but we get them at home. Win.
Duke - Win.
Gardner-Webb - Win.
Clemson - I agree with Yukon. This is before Clemson's annual meltdown, and it could get ugly. Loss.
UVA - UVA is going to be terrible this year. Win.
FSU - Our offense should be rolling by this point, and we get them at home. Win.
UNC - I think UNC is going to be very good this year. And the game is at their place. Loss.
Miami - I expect Miami to have collapsed by this point. Win.
Georgia - Could be interesting since our offense should be up to speed by then. Can't predict us to beat them right now, though. Loss.

8-4, and a trip to the Champs Sports Bowl.

I said earlier 8-4, but after spring drills, I think I'm going to revert to 1-0-and-ask-me-after-the-jax-state-game.

With all the turnover we've had, it's a bit early to be predicting anything. Still we have more reasons that we'll beat FSU, UVA and UNC next year than they have reasons to beat us. We'll have a good D-line next year and I'm not sure if Clemson could really pass against us.

And Duke is "maybe" a win? Please, the game is at home and it's Duke. New coach or not, hell will freeze over before we lose this game.

So, we lose to BC or FSU but maybe beat UGAy?

Was that rhetorical, or are you axing me?

BC is very early in the year and away, and our only experience as a team up to that point will be one game against Jax.

FSU strikes me as having too many athletes -exspecially on defense for us to do much with them. I think they can score 17 or 21 on us and that will be lights out.

Georgia is a bunch of intangibles colliding on one afternoon. We will have played eleven games by then, against some pretty good competition. Our freshmen will have grown up under Paul Johnson, Johnson and the staff are going to point to this game all year--and a win against the mutts counterbalances all the other losses. It will be our bowl game. It will be our season. It will be the drought-breaking opportunity to tell your grandkids about. Georgia, if the script is followed ,will have no more than two losses, be highly ranked, be looking at the SEC playoff the next week, and a BCS bowl. We will represent very little to them other than just another team that they have beaten seven years running.

To answer your question, yes.

Perhaps. Cutcliffe will be enjoying the same "new blood" environment that Paul Johnson has here and that Ted Roof enjoyed his first season. Anyone remember that game? Look, when the season starts I will be cheering for us to go undefeated. Realistically we will struggle.

Jax St.- Good tune up for the BC game... should have this one won by late 2nd quarter... W 52-3
@ BC- i expect a battle in the 1st half... but GT's DLine will be too much for BC... W 28-17
@ VT- its @ Blacksburg... they lost ALOT on defense but their still VT and they still have alot of athletes on defense but they lost their top 4 WRs and top RB plus 2 backups out indefinetly with injuries. L 20-30
Miss St.- i expect a low to high 20s scoring defensive battle with GT defense pulling this one out. W 29-20
Duke- Duke is still duke but i expect them to be a little bit more competitive... but not much. W 45-10
Gardner-Webb- good tune-up game to get ready for Clemson and to let backups get some reps... W 70-6
@Clemson- i expect a primetime night game in death valley for this one and this is about the time when Clemson has its annual meltdown... but i think Spiller, Harper, Davis, Kelly, and that Clemson D will be a little bit too much for our young players... L 20-35
Virginia- after a rough game in death valley... we come back home for one of those "refreshing feel good" victories over UVA who should be down this year... W 38-10
FSU- we haven't beaten them since they've joined the ACC, but we've came dangerously close to beating them every time we've played them... we haven't played them since Reggie Ball freshmen year (2003)... i feel like we'll beat FSU... their not the same program as they were in the 90s... W 31-14
@ UNC- i'm still not sold on UNC being alot better this year... yes we struggled at UNC every year... but that was during the Gailey era... i think UNC might be improved... but not as much as everyone is acting like they will be... W 34-17
Miami- final farewell to MJ, Gardner, DR, JWD, Booker, and VW... i think they'll have one of their best games of the season on senior night... i see Miami being a tad bit improved but idk about a bowl game for them... W 36-12
@ UGA- i think UGA will have more than 2 losses this year... their schedule is just rediculously hard and i dont think UGA will be as good as everyone is acting like they will be... just bcuz they got hot late in the season last year against teams that didnt have a good season doesn't mean they'll be world beaters this year... i do think they'll be a top 15 team... but not top 10... unless Staffy lives up to expectations... but it is at Sanford and they have our number... close game though... L 24-27

9-3, 6-2 in the ACC is possible for us.

ok FSU may have athletes on defense. however, i be more concerned if they had the awareness to know what we are doing durning our option off. I predict we will have CPJ's option offence down by this game and our d will keep up in it. win

Dangerously close to FSU everytime we have played them????
1993 we lost 51-0
1994 we lost 41-10
1995 we lost 42-10
1996 we lost 49-3
1997 we lost 38-0
1998 we lost 34-7
it has gotten more competitive, but we still haven't gotten it done.

The main reason I like us again FSU, is because FSU's problem right now is that they lack discipline as a team. The main thing you need to stop the option is a discipline defense. I think this has the potential to be a coming out game for our offense.

I'm just saying I dont think BC has a chance. They dont have a QB. With our D, we win that game.

FSU isn't the team they used to be. No decnt QB.

UGAy... we choke every time...

I like how you left off the 99 and later games. Real sharp.

All I know is these boys will be ready to play!

(execution might not be up to par until 1/2 way through the season.)
