As we know, Tech will play its second and third game on consecutive Thursday nights against Clemson and Miami. This will put the spotlight on the program since there are no other major games to compete with. Because the games are early in the year wins in both games can obviously go a long way toward improving the ranking. Losses can have the opposite effect of course.

Being on a national stage, how important is it to win both of these games to gain more national prominence? What would happen if they went 1-1 instead of 2-0?

We would have lost to either a man named Dabo or a man that thought hiring Patrick Nix was a good idea. Miami worries me because the ass whooping we put down on them last season, and I can see them being fired up for this game. Clemson worries me because it's Clemson, and somehow this game will be closer then it rightfully should be. We have a murderous schedule this season.

What about Miami's schedule? They begin with

@FSU
GT
@VT
Oklahoma

They are going to be 2-2 at best after this stretch. Probably will be 1-3 or 0-4.

Miami could be ranked when we play them if they beat FSU in their opener. Plus, Miami has an open date before they play us.

Clemson has me thinking as well. I don't know what it is, but I'm glad we are hitting them early in the year. Miami can be as fired up as they want, but they better have more than just will come game day cause this offense will shred through that in the first quarter - especially if they go with the same game plan as last year.

My biggest concern with Clemson is that with improved OL play for them, and our inexperience and lack of depth on DL, could lead to big rushing numbers for Clemson. Hopefully, our D will step up to shut this down. Also, their D-ends are very athletic and could disrupt our option attack.

I'm counting on CPJ to out-coach Dabo in this one, and if we can limit turnovers, I'm looking at a GT win, 28-21.

I just posted another thread about this, but Miami lost their #2 and #3 QBs due to transfers.

I don't know if Shannon is dumb enough to go with a scheme that epically failed last season. He was smart enough to fire Nix, sadly. Miami is a team with enough talent to go with the LSU defense against us. That worries me. If we win against Miami, I think Nesbitt will have video game numbers at the end of the game.

yeah but even with the LSU defense we were only out gained by what, like 10 yards or something... the LSU defense basically had front row seats to the "watch Georgia Tech kick themselves in the nuts" show...:nutkick:

I think Miami will run their qb less than they would have and that should be a good thing for us. But we have to remember that we are basically down to only 1 experienced qb too.

We can compensate for that. We can put more players to stop the run and then tell their freshman, first real college game, first away game QB to beat us with his arm. The lesser of evils is the way to go on defense (when you can't own them completely).

We can ... tell their freshman... to beat us with his arm.
With Burnett and Tarrant back there that may be a good idea. Burnett is very skilled in disguising the coverage he's in.

Well, we didn't help our selves out at all in that game, but it seemed that LSU's defensive philosophy was to take the Dive and the Pitch everytime, and make Nesbitt beat them. This worries me because if Miami does it, it's going to put some wear and tear on Nesbitt in a hurry. I know that the blocking schemes can and will be adjusted on the fly, and this will help get Nesbitt some space to get the ball to other people. Hopefully, the R&S is further along then it was in the spring, and we can make the LBs and safeties hang back to counter it. If our offensive line comes together, this offense, when hitting on all cylinders, will be a truly terrifying and beautiful thing to behold.

I don't think the stain of Patrick Nix will wash away quickly enough for their offense to be a real threat.

He was talking about Clemson I believe.

Lets not forget that it takes an extra person (usually) to take away the pitch and the dive. If it doesn't then we're failing already anyways. We if they send more people forward to cover both areas then we'll pass it on them till they stop. Or at least that should be the idea. It doesn't always work out like that....
