Confirmed by the refs in the byu game. They not only called a targeting penalty on a guy that hit a guy with his shoulder, but they kicked the guy out of the game. There was nothing wrong with the hit if we are actually playing the game of football. There was no helmet to helmet or any other injury inducing type of hit.

NCAA football has jumped the shark

Can't leave your feet and hit above the numbers... I don't mind the targeting penalty, just the ejection.

Are you sure it wasn't because they thought he might have given the cheerleaders an indecent glance? This is BYU afterall.

Kind of mY point. Shouldn't kick a guy out for this. However, I also have an issue with the rule b/c these guys are trying to hit a moving target. Easy to aim at a guy and hit em higher than you thought you would...

It's the fact that he left his feet that escalated it. And he does control that.

"Rule 9 Section 6 Article 1 governs Player Ejections from flagrant fouls: When a player is disqualified from the game due to a flagrant personal foul, that team’s conference shall automatically initiate a video review for possible additional sanctions prior to the next scheduled game."

Might Brady be subject to additional suspension by his conference? That would really be going too far IMO.

I didn't see it, but I'm pretty sure it would have pissed me off, based on your description.

IMO, it is the offense's responsibility to protect their own defenseless players, not the defense's. If they don't want WR's going airborne over the middle and getting crushed, then don't call the play, or don't throw the pass and put your guy in a bad position.

Football players are taught to HIT, and hit HARD. When a defensive players puts a soild hit on a guy, and doesn't lead with his helmet, I don't see how you can hold that against him. If anything, he should be commended, because that is what defensive players are taught to do.

If things continue going in this direction, it will be really bad for all levels of football.

I get that, but the rule is stupid in this situation. Essentially it means that a guy that is a little out of position (and therefore needs to leave his feet) is going to get called for a penalty.

I mean, he did leave his feet, but I didn't think it was a hard hit. That wide receiver is a wimp.

The WR had concussive issues in last week's game. Refs overprotecting a player? If he was not ready to play, BYU should have held the WR out.

I don't give a crap what his issues are. When he steps on the field all players should be treated equal. You're either ready to play or not.

If he had concussive issues last week, he probably shouldn't have played...

It ain't you "old" game of football--from blocking to tackling--football has "evolved"??--and I miss it.
