NEW Commitment!

If you notice we have two 5 stars and one four star recruits from this list. I would say we are getting a solid class so far. Hopefully this will increase with more numbers

techrod. Did you see that write up showing the college all american football players and where they ranked coming out of HS according to different publications?

Wish I could find it. It was very telling. Most of the kids on the all american teams were not highly recruited at all. if even ranked. Who offers kids and what they rank mean absolutely nothing to me.

Evaluating talent seems to be a lost art. You recruit/evaluate kids that can fit into your system. You build them up in the program to be great student athletes. That's my thinking anyways.

I'm sure Toledo has been offering for a long time since his brother is a Senior there. His brother will be a four year letterman and has played Center and Guard. He has a 3.85 in Civil Engineering IIRC and was Academic All-American last year. He was an Athlon pre-season All-MAC selection. Toledo won the MAC west last year and is still alive for it this year.

Unless Kevin falls a long way from the tree he is certainly capable of playing at our level. He has the size and strength to play Center or Guard and he has the brains to play Center (very important).

Thanks Jacketguy. That list is pretty telling to me. Amazing stuff.

Go Jackets!

Keep 'em coming, baby!

Welcome, Kevin! We've got some sewers here in the ATL we'd like you to take a look at.

Jacket Guy- whew lots to digest!! Gt Crew- good point. I just remember the last class Pepper recruited was the worst ever for Tech. There was ABSOLUTELY NO ONE offered by any top 30 program, and look what happened to our record in 1980,81,82 and83. You have to get those players who are offered by those programs at least say 20 out of 25 signees. This boy may follow in his brothers footstep and be very good and also a leader! So far looking at who has offered our 4 commitments is not very exciting so we MUST start getting those who are offered by the top programs or we will fall way behind the top 30. You can't sign all sleepers or your program will take a LONG nap. You 2 posters do make a good point, but the chances of a whole class working out is nil.

I think beeware needs to get la*d. Maybe that would help with his attitude problem!

Win or lose, we drink the booze!
drinking.gif

Anything resembling Peppers last class of all sleepers We will finish the year 2005 in the bottem 3 in the conference. Also we Must sign at least 9 or 10 of 25 from our home state or the non alumni fan base will have no chance to grow. You have to have the Ga. high school coaches on your side with respect. As far as marginal student athletes go; you have to give those guys with great athletic ability a chance. There have been numorous ex Tech players who were very marginal that got there degree. With the proper analysis with their recruitment interview you can pretty much tell which of these guys have got a real chance of fulfilling their academic requirments.

techrod .. your commentaries regarding recruiting make a lot of sense.

but you post with so much authority regarding this subject that one might assume that you have recruited many top 10 recruiting classes for division 1A schools.

is that the case?

if so .. i'll (i'm speaking for myself but i am pretty sure that there are many more with similar views as mine) respect all your posts regarding recruiting.

however, if that is not the case ... please for heaven's sake, don't go about posting comments like
this is not the kind of talent i'm looking for
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">you Sir, have not seen this kid .. have not read anything about him except for what is posted in this post ..

please temper your posts according to the information you posess and your abilities to process the information that you do posess

techrod. Pepper's last class was in '79. That was 23 years ago. The college football sceen has changed a great deal since then. Recruiting has changed a great deal since then. I hear your point though.

You've given your disliking to Kevin commiting to GT. He might not be what you are looking for in a student athlete. That's your opinion.

The young man is 6'5 285 lbs. Benches 350lbs already. He's obviously a good student. His brother is a good student athlete at Toledo. I know you don't have any respect for Toledo. That's my opinion you don't anyway. That's fine with me. Wonder what his parents think of your opinion. Their son is soon to be coming to GT. Maybe they like to read about the fans and such. This board and the hive would be likely places to find.

We don't know if the info from the recruiting site is right. They don't always get it right who has offerend and who hasn't. That goes for the things I listed above as well. It's not really important as far as I'm concerned anyway. A lot of times it is where the kid wants to go that has a lot to do with who offers him. There are a lot of things we don't know.

One this I do know. You sure don't SEEM happy with Kevin choosing GT and/or GT choosing Kevin. Sorry he's not what you're looking for in a student athlete based on this information on the net.

I say welcome Kevin. GOO JACKETS!

When the ncaa let alumni and friends of institute recruit I certainly did just that. Bill Curry requested a meeting with me in my home town on a cetain recruit. My wife and I entertaina couple of Tech assistants at different occasions before a high school game. I was called to their practice by the coach when he came to to scout. Al Ciraldo came by to see me at my work. And I was invited to the then new Edge buildind for a recruiters cocktail party. So yes I do know what it takes. Now if you read my second post I stated you had a good point about this young man and may become a great player and leader, but I do maintain you can't sign all sleepers or you will and mark my words end up in a heck of a MESS.

techrod .. thanks for your response on your recruiting "credentials".

so in your own words .. "you do know what it takes".

now let me remind you of a few facts:

1) you've never seen this kid .. he's not from your home town and he's never played a high school game in front of your eyes and you've never hosted any Tech assistants scouting this kid.

2) you've never heard about this kid .. and haven't got a clue about him .. nada .. zilch

3) someone from the current coaching staff has taken a look at this kid and has liked what this kid has to offer as a student athlete.

so when you base your judgement on this kid saying that he is not the kind of talent you are looking for ..

1) you do so without any tangible information needed to reach such a conclusion.

2) question the recruiting skills of the person who has recruited this kid.

3) obviously question the talent of the kid under discussion

so once again .. please refrain from posting comments and judgement when you do not posess pertinent and relevant information needed to make such judgements.

max emfinger has this guy rated 4 stars and if people on this board think they know more than this guy you are kidding yourself.

I think it is great we have another commit. Right now I would take 23 4 stars off this guys list.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Agree with you, Law. Go Jackets! Go Kevin!!

Before Pepper's last class he had signed some wonderful marginal players who went on to the nfl. Some of the so called marginal students also went on to get their Tech degree. One of the very marginal students who just happened to be one of the greatest in Tech history also excelled in the class room. You 2 guys in football dept. please correct me if I am honestly mistaken. These marginal students also just happen to be of GREAT character. Pepper had some good teams until 1978 that just had a lot of hard luck during some of the games. Then in 1978 he a great team which also had some bad luck, but went on to a bowl. I don't know what happened in that last rec. class, but I think it had something to do with more stringent academic demands placed on him by the administration. Then the horrific results of the next 4 years.

Techrod,

I did not realize that Bill Curry was a great recruiter. You would know more than I would since you were intimately involved.

How did Ross do with BC's recruits after BC jumped to Bama?
grin.gif

This is unbelieveable...

Techrod, you don't know jack about this kid and
you don't even mention the possibility that our
staff may have done a good job finding this kid.

People get too caught up in recruitnik rankings,
as the previous list in this thread shows.

And I cannot believe people are talking about
beeware in a thread that he has not even posted
in.

Why is this board so negative when we have a winning
team that is en route to a bowl game, given all
the challenges they have faced this season.
