New DC - speculation,rumors and/or candidates

If NFL is the goal, going to coach for Harbaugh is a great opportunity. And their defense can use his ability frankly. Good luck to him.

Employing good coaches means they will leave. I just hate that he’s leaving as DC for a position job in the league.

speculation of candidates from SI
.
Simpson- GT DL
Cullen - Chiefs DL
Hauser - Ohio DC
Bates - Pitt DC
Patke - Duke DC

Y'all told me already that an NFL position coach is better than a CFB DC, so why would an NFL position coach be on this list?

I've Cracked the code on the next DC. We need a guy with good recruting and good expierience. We will go to the cesspool like faulkner and Will Hire Will Muschamp Call It Now!
I wouldn't hate it. Apparently he stepped into an off-field role last year to spend more time with family so that's probably far fetched to happen.

It's just the GT thing to do I think that key takes account family men like he said great fathers it just keeps building a case for that

Zac Alley would be my first choice but it will never happen. WVU just poached him from Oklahoma. I also like Nick Howell, Jason Seymour, and Freddie Roach. If we stay in house Jess Simpson.

At this point, if you want to have a decent defense next season, you have to pick a DC the players will like or else you will see significant players leave when the portal reopens on April 16. It is sad to think this way, but it is the new reality.

So you're saying we should get Prime?

I hated to see this change. I thought the defense was organized last year and improved and was looking forward to another year with him. While I don't think you can ask for a two year commitment from a position coach, asking a coordinator role for a two year commitment seems reasonable. Don't want to hold people back from moving up but really tough on players to change coordinators and philosophy every year. I think too many changes in philosophy will hurt defense and we will lose some to the portal due to upheaval.

With regards to hiring, I don't know Key's defensive philosophy. On offense I think he has one which is centered on running the ball and controlling the clock. On defense, does he prefer a certain alignment and what's his view on being blitz heavy or not? Don't know. Will be an interesting and tough hire. Kind of agree with the comment above that may need to hire a players coach so as not to put us at risk on portal. Guess that's always true but given the multiple defensive coordinators we have gone through, may need to be aware of players attitudes.

Reggie Ball had a new coordinator every single year he played. That worked out. Not worried at all!
Difference is we had a WR that was gonna be impossible not to use (except against the mutts still pisses me off) We have guys that are young and springy plus 2-4-5 is the defense 90-95% are using now
