New DC - speculation,rumors and/or candidates

Colin Hitschler is a interesting name I don't believe theres much connection between him and Key. He's had Co DC roles for awhile and apparently was primarily in charge of Safeties this past season in Alabama and Alabama finished 9th in the country in Total Defense and 19th in passing defense and his safeties have 8 takeaways for year. He seems like he got good pedigree and experience never been a full time guy so that's interesting but also he's got a rep with being a good DB side guy and we have alot of studs in the secondary so there some synergy there.

His firing from Alabama sounds more like a scapegoating/not my guy firing.

Up and comer. Comes from a top program. Looks like he has a Special Teams background as well, which is helpful. Key really keeps these things on the down low. This rumor and speculation thread had no rumors at all.

I don’t have any background on Gideon and wouldn’t risk a guess at how successful he will be here or not, but Key has consistently made good coordinator hires so looking forward to seeing how he does here. hopefully he can bring a few guys with him in the Spring portal.

That being said, hiring a DB coach with no DC experience does not scream “we’ve arrived” to me. Stealing Santucci from a conference rival was a bigger statement than this imho.
 
I have no problem if this is who Key wants.
But who we coach our LB’s?
